Feds have denied providing any money to the City for an arena. www.moncton.ca/Government/Media_Room/News_Releases/Public_Private_Partnership__PPP__Canada_rejects_Moncton_s_Downtown_Centre_funding_request.htmI'm assuming this will also impact Halifax and their on-going discussions for a stadium. Also heard an interesting rumour that apparently Irving has bought Highfield Square. On Crombie Reit's website, it shows Highfield Square as being managed by Crombie Reit, I always thought they owned the property as well? I'm assuming that the rumour of the purchase is false... In any event, the news of no federal money for an arena project really puts a dent in the City's plan, unless of course private funding can make up the shortfall.

You would have to wonder who would want to put money towards an arena......What type of return could get on your investment? I think this most definately impacts Halifax's request for funds.....I don't think I'd Halifax any money with the council they have in place now anyway....they'd find a way to screw it up.

well when you drag your feet and farted around as long as moncton did what do you expect,,,,, I agree 100%, Moncton should have had this all done a couple years ago when The Feds had a bunch of money for areanas and sports facilitites, but as usual they dragged their butts and now it has come back to bite them in the back side.

I guess this kind of has to do with a new arena, as in the location they want to have it.. The only major tenant of Highfield Square, The Bay, is closing it's doors at the end of March.

I doubt any major city in the Maritimes can hold a candle to SJ as far a "leadership".

Not that I don't believe you, but source? Nothing showing up online. Unless it was in the T&T, which I don't subscribe to... nor pay $20 a month for online access.

I doubt any major city in the Maritimes can hold a candle to SJ as far a "leadership". So were they too busy planning parades and buying streamers the day that shipbuilding contract was awarded to Halifax?

So were they too busy planning parades and buying streamers the day that shipbuilding contract was awarded to Halifax? No they were busy sorting out "Peel Plaza" crap and trying to find ways on how to honor their pentions......Saint John as a city and the word "leadership" should not be mentioned in the same breath Don't get me wrong, I've lived there, I travel there frequently for business and still have family in the city......I actually like the city to visit.....LOVE the old city market and Harbour Station with the pedway system but to suggest Saint John is "the city of leadership" is laughable!

It's a joke and I'm somewhat amazed at how incompetent things can actually be. A "Congestion Tax"? LOL!! Complain about bridge toll and less than a year after it's gone start dreaming up new tolls.
