My opinion is that we will likely have to replace the following: Bahm, Costello, Stoddard, McGuigan, Knotek, Wiggington, Bety, Dimitruk and 3 of these spots will be taken by Lewis, Euro pick and Boudreau leaving about 5 openings for draft picks and the possibility of trades pick ups, also I think we will be picking a gaoltender in the first 3 rounds. Your thoughts I really don't beleive Bishop will be in the long term plans. I don't see him on this team as a contender in 2 or 3 years. I see him part of a package during the upcoming draft. I see Cam moving some players along with picks to get some more impact forwards to support the youth movement. Don't be surprised to see Cam go after another Top D-man along with a Top Forward early in the draft versus two forwards, we'll get a very high calibre Euro and he'll pick up some top forwards through trades. We're not as solid back on the blue line as many would suggest. Don't be surprised if next year's Defence guarantees coming out of training camp looking like this; Amyot, Clarke, Konrad, Gillard and the remaining positions are open for players to come in and take Forwards, outside of Grant, Desjardin, Euro, Bernard, Gelinas, Boudreau, will be open for someone to come in and take. Between the Pipes; Delmas will be back along with Corbeil and we'll pick up another solid one in the draft to develop. JMO.

Your thoughts Grant- 20 (lock) Amyot- 20 Dmitruk- 20 Bety - 20 Delmas - 20 IMO Grant is the only lock. I'd say Amyot and Dmitruk probably have the inside track, and Delmas is drafted and will probably play pro next year- especially if he has a strong finish. Bety could be traded for a mid pick (5th) or he could be kept and Amyot or Dmitruk could be traded. Regardless, there will be 3 20's on the roster, so that leaves 20 spots. Randell - 19 (lock) Bernard - 19 (lock) Corbeil - 19 (lock) Wiggington - 19 Costello - 19 I think Wiggington and Costello are very hard pressed to make the team. At 18 this year, they haven't performed well enough to earn spots as 19 year olds. Three more locks makes 6 so far. Clarke - 18 (lock) Gillard - 18 (lock) Abeltshauser - 18 (lock) Hannay - 18 (lock) Desjardins - 18 (lock) Lemieux - 18 (lock) Gelinas - 18 (lock) MacDonald - 18 MacGuigan - 18 MacDonald is close to a lock, but he hasn't really done much since arriving. MacGuigan doesn't have much of a chance IMO. Maybe Russell thinks differently. He might have made the team if not for injury. Add 7 more locks. Andrews - 17 (lock) Boudreau - 17 (lock) Bishop - 17 (lock) Lewis - 17 (lock) Andrews is 100% guaranteed. The other 3 would have to really suck to not make it. They all have lots of talent. Add 4 more locks. The total of players who have spots is 17, and they will likely carry 23 so there are 6 spots open, which is perfect for a draft with lots of high picks. That being said, they will want to start winning next year, and may opt to grab a couple of veterans to stabilize the team. So long answer short, 6 spots available IMO.

I agree, in my haste I forgot to include Hannay on D and Andrews and Lemiex on F. I don't agree with Bishop and Lewis as locks. We'll see next August. One thing is for sure, if they become locks Halifax has a big crop for the 2011 NHL draft; Clarke Desjardins Andrews Boudreau Lewis Bishop

For me, I'd say the 20 year old spots are up in the air right now. I'd say Grant is a lock. If they were going to trade him, they would have done it at Xmas. Then there's probably 1 spot between Dimitruk and Amyot. My guess is Dimitruk has the inside track for that spot for varying reasons. One, his trade value is probably lower. Amyot would likely report anywhere, and Dimitruk wouldn't. The fall off between the two isn't overly significant, so my guess is they trade Amyot, because they'll get more for him. Bety would be my guess as the 3rd guy. I don't think Delmas will be signed (even with a strong finish), so I expect him back in the league. Unless halifax gets blown away by an offer for Corbeil, I would guess Delmas will be dealt, and Bety takes the 3rd overage spot. Same with the euro pick. If Halifax gets blown away with an offer, they could move the pick, keeping Knotek, bumping Bety.
My guess for "locks" is:
G- Corbeil D- Clarke, Abeltshauser, Gillard, Hannay, and Dimitruk. Bishop and Lewis I wouldn`t call `locks`, but it would take something drastic for them to not round out the top 7. F- Bety, Grant, Andrews, MacDonald, Bernard, Randall, Lemieux, Boudreau and Gelinas are the locks. Wigginton and Costello are probably battling for 1 spot with McGuigan, and considering age, I would think McGuigan has the inside track. Their euro should also be a forward, which makes 11.
They still have 4 picks in the top 2 rounds. I would guess one is forward number 12, goalie number 2, and possibly another roster player (even both).
EDIT: Forgot Desjardins

The thing you have to remember about MacDonald is that he hasn't played a lot of hockey. He only played a handful last year between Gatineau and Victo, and then this year he got injured, played a few games for Victo, then didn't play for a few weeks due to him not reporting to PEI, and then he came to us and was thrown into the line-up. In some ways I agree he hasn't done much so far, but he's still young and hasn't played a ton of games in the league. Plus to me, he needs to get in better shape. He looks gased out there a lot of times. With a little more experience, getting into better shape, and I think we'd see a better player. As far as the 20's go, Grant is absolutely a lock. Other then him it's anyone's guess. I thought when we acquired Dimitruk he'd edge out Amyot, but he's been a turnover machine lately, as where Amyot has played better since xmas. Trade value could come into the picture, and in that case it might be good to have Amyot playing better. But if Dimitruk plays like this next year, then I can't see it being justified having him as a 20.

So just putting into made up line to see where numbers fit:
Grant - Boudreau - Randell MacDonald - Desjardins - Bernard Gelinas - Andrews - Lemieux
I think that's pretty much 100% and all of those guys minus Grant can return the next year as well. From there I think Bety is close unless they surprise us with Delmas or, simply to make room for the youth, maybe they go with two 20 year olds/trade Bety - Bety is a good team guy though. And I think both McGuigan and Wigginton are well liked. McGuigan brings something this team lacks a bit of up front and has the big advantage of being the right age. I mean if they trade or cut McGuigan I think 3 months or a year later they'll end up looking for another guy that plays that role. Wigginton I think the coaches really like, plays hard, plays defensive and they seem to think he has upside... one of them said he reminds them a bit of Pridham. If an offensive game doesn't come around I couldn't see them keeping a spot for him as they have a number of solid PKers up front.
As for spots open up front I think they need to make some room (more important then a roster spot is a spot in the lineup) but I'm not sure how they do that yet. Bottom line is that there's two spots up front open for sure... likey a 3rd but I don't see more then that before Christmas unless Bety isn't around.1st round pick and Euro take those for sure spots and the rest is about making room for 1 or 2 other guys that impress.
On D:
Amyot or Dimitruk - Clarke Abeltshauser - Gillard Bishop - Hannay Lewis
It's Amyot or Dimitruk and in no way can I see them keeping both... likely something they'll want to take care of at the draft with a trade. Amyot has been the better of the two lately but is more tradeable. Neither guy may find themselves on the team next Christmas and if a decent option arises at the draft for a 19-20 year old D both guys may be gone. The four 17s are locks, Bishop a lock and Lewis with a healthy knee is a lock (the last game for the Moose he was hurting again so...). If they have the 7 above there and healthy, it may be like right now and they stick with 7 guys as in would be tough to be a 16 year old #8 guy behind those 7 and expect to get any ice time. There may not be any openings on D.
Corbeil Grondin
I'm guessing Delmas would be moved. They'll draft a goalie in the 2nd rd but I don't think he'll be here next year and they'll keep him midget AAA... my prediction anyways.
Really not many openings on the team if they go with 23 guys. As few as 2 but I don't see anymore than 5 (6 if Lewis is injured, maybe 7 if they keep 8 Dmen)... and even in those 5 spots you have McGuigan, Bety and Wigginton certainly in the mix. That being said I'm sure I've guessed at several lineups over the last few years and even with what often seemed like clear choices I doubt I've even been spot on. Changes will happen, trades will be done and Cam will open up some spots.

Grondin wasn't ready this year; I'd give him another year of Midget and go with Corbeil and Delmas next year too!!!

My hope is that this is the last season of us needing to us bona fide jr A players to make a lineup, I would think now we can have genuine Major Jr players with some potential ones developing (the way it is should work), secondly I hope that we can get Randell back to his role of playing with Lemieux and Andrews a true checking line with some offensive, a true 1st line of Grant, Trade for a proven scorer no older than 18 and Gelinas, 2nd line of Desjardins, Boudreau and Bernard (if he comes to training camp in shape this year), 3rd line of MacDonald, 1st pick, 2nd pick, 4th line picks and a young player aquired in a trade for Bety & Dimitruk. Defence is set, as is Goal tenders with a change coming at Christmas when we trade one of the tenders and bring up our early goalie pick. This is my opinion and hope for the 2010/11 season.

Sorry, I forgot about the Euro forward who will likely replace Gelinas on the 1st line thus moving Gelinas to the 2nd line and putting Boudreau on the 3rd line and with the aquistion of the Euro everything looks better already, don't you agree.

Umm I am confused are you suggesting the Moose go with 5 lines? You say you want a line with Randell, Lemiuex and Andrews as a checking line. Then you say the rest of the lines would be: 1st - Grant / New Player / Gelinas 2nd - Desjardins / Boudreau / Bernard 3rd - MacDonald / 1st round pick / 2nd round pick 4th - young player acquired / pick / pick. that makes no sense at all. Me thinks you got confused and your 3rd line should be the 4th line (and the Randall / Lemiuex / Andrews would be the 3rd line). Your 4th line shouldn't exist.

With this years draft, a high Euro and between the pipes a possible non-issue for next year we're looking pretty good. Contrary to what Donger may beleive (Sorry Donger, I've never said anything about your posts as some of them I actually agree with, with the exception of the baboon reference, however there is some talent on this team and next year the team will show much better than this). Sharrow, I think you're on the right track with the exception of the #'s equalling a 5th line. The only piece I think we're missing is D. I still don't see our D as solid as many beleive.

You are correct my mistake, Iwould think that we will carry 14 forwards though with the draft picks plus there seems to be a lot of injuries ongoing and as I stated we would assure ourselves of a mid point standing if we had a solid 1st line and a solid checking line to hold the other teams 1st line at bay, all other would be a bonus, remember thats on paper and our picks and players we trade for will have to work out. (AND NO FRINGE PLAYERS).
