...according to Philadelphia Daily News Columnist Frank Seravalli. He will meet the team in Dallas for the game Thursday night vs the Stars. Leighton hurt last night in game vs Predators...High ankle sprain. So Flyers have to go with Brian Boucher as their starter. Goalie Johan Backland who was called up last time as back up is hurt as well. Flyers are hurt'n...this might kill their playoff hopes.

He might be next to go, don't laugh ! How is Philly's goaltender depth . Can not be too deep, where was Duchense playing.

Duchesne was playing mostly in the ECHL. The Phantoms had John Grahame at one point, but he was picked up off the Waiver Wire by Colorado. I wonder how Pronger would look in pads. With Emery gone for the Season and waiver wire pick-up Leighton being your number one goalie with Boucher as a back-up, GM Paul Homgren should be fired for not coming out of the Trade Deadline with a Goalie.

Just as an update...this isn't funny anymore...they are saying Duchesne may start in Dallas because Boucher has the flu. They are also talking about Robert Esche coming in from the KHL. Desperate!

Actually, I seem to recall reading that Rio never actually signed an NHL contract with the Flyers, something to do with salary cap issues? I think he was signed to an AHL contract with the Phantoms ... not sure if the Flyers technically own his NHL rights or not ...

The Flyers could still re-call him on an emergency basis...

Even if he wasnt signed, they could still do it...sign him to a 1 day ATO like the LA Kings did with Brayden Schenn earlier this year.

Even if he wasnt signed, they could still do it...sign him to a 1 day ATO like the LA Kings did with Brayden Schenn earlier this year. For 48 hours via that method. If he isn't signed, they can sign him and call him up (he'd be NHL, AHL, ECHL, and Q eligible once they have to make a decision). If he is, he can't play above the Q until Moncton is out, except for a 48 hour emergency recall.

He isnt signed on an NHL deal...he signed an AHL 1 year deal...so Philly could either sign him to a 1-day ATO like Schenn...or sign him to an ELC and call him up on emergency basis like what LA did with Volkov, Mtl did with Michaud, etc
I dont think it will happen as Backlund would have to get hurt in order for them to cal Riopel up.

As a 20 year old, couldn't they just sign him and call him up immediately? No ATO, no 48hrs, just sign him? Like Edmonton did with Mike Comrie way back when?

I believe if they do that than he cant go back down... EDIT: Also another factor could be that Philly is already at their Max 50 contracts, but i dont know where to find that Information, all I know is NHL teams are allowed 50 contracted players and 80 players overall on their 'protected list'
