Horyl = 100% guarantee, MacDougall = 99%, God knows what will happen with the other open 20 spot. Bourgeois, Bernard, and Paul are available but would be extremely weak options at an overage position. They'll probably acquire someone cheap through a trade. I don't know how cheap it will be but I still could see Struthers wearing the Eagle jersey this season.... As long as it didn't cost more than a 3rd or 4th round pick, I'd be quite happy with that acquisition. Always liked Struthers, and felt we should have drafted him from the outset.

I've said several times that the Eagles should have acquired him a year and a half ago. All they had to do was add something to improve PEI's 3rd round pick to do it. But that was the year "The Prices were too Steep" even though they made sense at that time, unlike last year when I guess somehow the prices weren't too steep and it made no sense at all. We could have had him for a 3rd and a ?th for 2 and a half years!
Anyway, I agree. Go get him! Better late than never! -- Although now the team could really use some help on defense. I mean no offense to any of the young D who are being thrown to the wolves in this master plan.

If Struthers is going to help with the leadership and add skill then bring him in. Adding an 18 year old Euro that can help guide the young back end will also help. The topic of the "weak and inexperienced" defense makes hiring the right assistant coach even more important.

The CB Post's Greg MacVicar got in touch with Shawn MacKenzie and Norm Batherson. Both confirmed they expressed interest to the Eagles in the assistant coaching position, but neither sounded especially optimistic about getting it. According to the article, neither is Mario's #1 choice. Durocher wouldn't tip his hand as to who that is - all he said is the guy played pro.

"the guy played pro"
good for them, but can they be a half-assed assistant coach?

Max Lessard and Pascal Morency are former Eagles I could see making good assistant coaches someday, although right now I think Lessard is beginning a career as a chartered accountant so he obviously has enough on his plate. And Morency of course is still playing pro. These guys are still pretty young (27ish), but I could see both making good hockey coaches someday with their outgoing ways and abilities to deal with people.

Heard a name. The initials are P. R. A former Q player with over 300 NHL games.
We'll see.

Why don't you just say the name instead of playing games?

Like Mario said in the Post, "It's none of our business!"
Batherson and MacKenzie were very strong rumors as well.
Some posters like deer might like to take a shot at it, but it's only a rumor that we may never really know about if he turns Mario down.
Do all teams let things like an assistant coach, go this late? Training camp is 6 -7 weeks away after all.

I heard the name in question is former NHL er Pascal Rheaume. Mario made an offer and Rheaume is currently mulling over the decision.

My next clue was going to be that another member of P R's family played 1 game in the Q but was much more famous.

Former player with no coaching experience, does that make sense??? Super Mario said in the paper he would have an answer by early July. How much longer do we wait? Ellis, Woodworth, and new Euro D-man. Makes no sense bringing in a former pro forward? ?

Latest rumor could be more bad PR for the Eagles with P. R. possibly turning down the job offer?
It doesn't make a lot of sense to drag this process out so long when you assume these applicants have coaching positions right now, if they are even coaching as thecrease questions, and commitments to their present teams.

I don't see this as bad PR. It doesn't matter when they hire an assistant as long as who they hire is prepared for the job.
