I still prefer a few other players who havent been picked from the Q...Samuel Carrier and Petr Straka for 2... If someone takes M-O Mimar from BaC they are getting a steal, but hes more of a dark horse. Abeltshauser is still available, so is Maxime Clermont in goal. Matthew Bissonnette and Jess Tanguy in Lewy havent been picked yet. Louis Domingue is still on the board, as is Stephen MacAuley (although im not surprised). Brandon Hynes is still available as well. Lots of good players are still left. With only 7 rounds, there will be good players who arent picked. Straka was picked in rd 2... Oh ok, i was wondering what was going on with Culek going before him

Congrats to Ellis!!!
Would he be the first Eagle ever drafted by the Habs? JP Cote was Habs property, but I think he was drafted by the Leafs.

As I die hard Habs fan, I couldn't be any happier. Cannot wait to watch him develop over the next 2 years.

While being interviewed by media following his selection, a Montreal reporter says to Morgan, "Are you related to Brad Richards?"
Oh comic relief. How I love thee.

Kyle Woodley of The Redline Report was just on the Team 990 in Montreal and sees Morgan Ellis playing for the Habs in the future . He was one of their Biggest Sleepers in the whole draft . His knock on Morgan was that he has to play one way or the other ..........shut down ...defence first or an offence first defenceman . They are really high on him though and like his skill set .

I don't know if that's really true....... I think that at 18 and 19 Ellis can be one of the Q's better "hybrid" defencemen. More defensive than offensive, but I don't think he has to stick strictly to a stay-at-home style. Maybe at the pro level, and of course that could be what Woodlief means.

Here's a nice little write up about Morgan found at: www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Steven-Hindle/Habs-Prospect-ReviewPlayer-Breakdown-DEFENSEMEN/139/296619. Morgan Ellis – Drafted 117th overall (4th round) in 2010 by Habs Cap Hit/Contract Length: Yet to sign a professional contract Outlook/Expectations: Chosen in the 4th round of this year’s draft, the Canadiens went out on a limb and drafted only their 4th QMJHL defensive prospect since 2000. Ellis, a 6’1, 197 pound defender out of Ellerslie, PEI, is set to become the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles next captain and is known for his stay-at-home, responsible play in his own zone. The Canadiens liked the selection mainly due to his leadership abilities and the fact that they foresee an abundance of development in Morgan’s near future. As the leader of the Screaming Eagles for the upcoming season, the Habs will get a good look at what type of affect being under the spotlight will have on the 18 year old and if he can grow into the role set before him. It’s likely that Ellis won’t be lighting up the scoresheet anytime soon, but as a minute-eating, dependable rear-guard, so long as he doesn’t turn out to be a liability in his own end, all signs point to Morgan making the jump in a year or two, joining other defensive prospects like Tinordi and Bennett as a possible Hab in 2013-14.

Looks like we'll have Ellis back in our lineup for opening night!
The Canadiens announced this afternoon that forwards Philippe Lefebvre (Montreal – QMJHL) and Brendan Gallagher (Vancouver – WHL), defencemen Morgan Ellis (Cape Breton – QMJHL) and Joe Stejskal (Dartmouth – ECAC), as well as goaltender Nicholas Champion (Lewiston – QMJHL) were released from training camp and returned to their respective teams.
