I admit, ihave not seen a lot of Schmidt, but from what I did, I can say that the odds of him being a Q "20" next season are slim. Now I agree with that part but I am also starting to really believe that this team can challenge for the Division. Not because of 2 preseason wins against St. John's but because early indications that my preseason concerns may not be a real issue. Them being 1. Morrison returning Still a wait and see but it sounds like he is expected to be back. 2.Adding an impact Euro Kana is a very solid hockey player and will make an impact. Only question remains is what kind of numbers will he put up. 3. Defensive depth with 4 17 yr olds Southorn looks phenominal Clow came exactly as advertised Malouin and Deighan both look Q ready 4. Secondary scoring It remains a question but so far Kana, Cliche, Locke, Lachaine and Schmidt combined have looked like they will be able to improve on last year's secondary production which what we need. Obviously its very early and I am not saying Cup Contenders but I do think this team is good enough that they should be focussing on challenging with Lewiston, Bathurst & Halifax and taking the best players available to help them do that. And IMO early indications are Schmidt could help this team as a third line player.

Now that post HF99 I can agree with
except it sort of conflicts with your opinions on Paynter making the club
we have lots of very good youth and some with a solid year of Q experience now behind them.. to me it's time to ice the best possible team and take a legit run at it
still wish we'd have done better than Swit for a third overager but that can be addressed if need be mid-season

but I am willing to bet in camp in year one nobody would have thought a kid named Mark Lee was anything more than a one year filler (and turns out he wasn't but that was a huge management mistake) and now he's playing in the AHL Difference is, Lee came here at 19 after puttng up OVER a point per game in Tier II...... Anyway, difference of opinons are great, and right now thats where we stand!

I agree with HF99, I really like Schmidt and think he would be good with us this season. He impressed me in training camp and he was also really good in the two pre-season games I seen him play. Like I said before if he is cut I think it will be a very hard decision to make because he is playing so good it is hard to cut a player like that.

Now that post HF99 I can agree with except it sort of conflicts with your opinions on Paynter making the club. The difference I see between Schmidt and Paynter is that I think Schmidt could provide some added offense to the third line. Where as much as I love Paynter his style is more as a 4th line energy player who can play tough and so far Main looks poised to fill that role. IMO they are completely different decisions.

Thanks, that is interesting indeed. Wonder why the Volts have no use for him, or any interest to see him at their camp. To make that deal it seems as though he will stick around for a while anyhow...... “Kris was invited to our camp, after an agreement was made with Drummondville. The agreement gave us the option to accept or decline the trade after seeing what the player had to offer. We really like what we saw from Kris at Training Camp, and therefore, have accepted the trade” said Serge Savard Jr., President and General Manager of the P.E.I. Rocket."I still believe that having a 19yr old 3rd liner is un-needed this season, as it could have been used on a younger player. Is Cliche a "lock" to stay with this team? Hmmm

Drummondville is in complete rebuild mode they would prefer to use their third line opportunities for 17 and 18 yr olds.
And I am pretty confident Cliche is not going anywhere. Having said that as I previously posted this is his make-or-break year and his ice time and where he plays will depend on his production. He could just as easily move up to the second line as down to the 4th.

If they are in a complete rebuild mode, then they could probably use the 15-20 goals that you pegged in for Schmidt then, on their 2nd line.....no? I like Cliche, as he has a very good, quick release......but he skating is still a question.

Cliche's skating will always be a question
not too many players have the perfect combination of everything.... I'll take a big skilled player with a goal scoring instinct over a figure skater anyday
especially if he can ever develop a nasty streak to go along with the size and raw skill

Good point but a quick look at their roster and their depth chart probably looks something like this: Cacciotti (20) - Zohorna(19) - Vlasenek(18) Howes(20) - Bellavance (20) - Vachon(17) Bouchard(18) - Dumont (17) - MacIssac (19)/Levesque (18) They also have some young guys like Lefebrve (16), Gingras (16) and Bergeron (17) plus others who will need an opportunity on the third and 4th lines. They have some offense on those top 2 lines and like most rebuilding teams will focus their 3rd and 4th lines to develop 16 - 18 yr olds. Schmidt unfortunately doesn't fit in that mold even though he probably would help their third line as well. He also only played 6 games in the second half of the season with Drummondville and may not want to go back there.

I ws really impressed with Schmidt last season at the Titan training camp. he looked much better than Jezegou but when the regular season started Spencer's better 2-way play prevailed. (Looking back on our playoff series I guess we kept the correct guy). I wish him all the best for the Rocket this season (except, of course, wghen they play Le Titan)

There seems to be good depth on the 3rd & 4th lines and if a couple of those players don't get off to a good start, I think Serge has some options.
Players that I think could be moved are Locke and Lachaine. Locke and Lachaine are both 19 year olds who have been in this league for 2 years and haven't been anything more than 3rd line players and chances are they will still be 3rd liners this season. Plus they likely won't be back as 20 yr olds.
Right now I see Deighan and Malouin rotating in and out of the lineup. I thought Deighan looked good in camp. If they decide to keep Owens, I can't see the Rocket keeping 8 defenseman and they may decide to move one of them. If that is the case I can see it being Malouin because he was in the league last year, has had more exposure than Owens and Deighan and the Rocket might get more for him than Owens and Deighan right now.
