Story on Tampa's prospect coach visiting Drouin: metronews.ca/sports/946026/tampa-bay-lightning-prospect-coach-seeing-marked-improvement-in-jonathan-drouins-game/Poll is simple: Given what you've seen from Jonathan Drouin in the last 5 months, do you think he'll stick in the NHL next season? For me, we've seen two Jonathan Drouins this season. We've seen the one in the first 5 games back in October, and a 5 game stretch in January/early February when he seems uninterested. And we've seen the other 27 games when he's been the most dominant player on the ice. It's consistency with attitude that he has to find. I can't tell if he's physically ready for the NHL until he plays regular season games against men. My answer will be yes, I think he'll find a way to stick in the NHL for a full season. As much as I love the Moose and would love him to return for their sake (trade him for a fortune), I don't think Tampa will want him down here again. Yes he's learning defensive systems and what not. But I think he can improve much more up in the NHL. He's definitely trending upward with his attitude. We'll see which Jonathan Drouin we see in the playoffs, especially if things start going south for the Moose in the 2nd round.

When does he turn 19 ?, if he's 19 there's no way we will see him.

Option four would be the Grigorenko treatment, where Tampa sends Drouin back in January. But I doubt anyone else is that dumb.

I think there is a good chance that he sticks in TB next year and if he cannot make they MAY consider trading him.
It would certain crush him to be send back to junior again and could end up being a huge detriment to his career.
What I think will happen is he makes TB. They take their time getting him 10 games (healthy scratch for a couple) and then they consider sending him to WJHC. Very similar to Reilly with the leafs this year.

The worst thing they can do is send him back. He had nothing left to prove after leading the league in scoring and winning a Memorial Cup, he looks disinterested this year.

I don't know if keeping him in TB next year depends on if he will be happy with it or not. Obviously they are going to do what is best for TB. Is anyone leaving there to open up a spot for him? I thought they were still stocked with older prospects. All the guys that would have beat him out of a spot now how a year of NHL experience under their belt. I think it will still be hard for him to find a spot. That being said, I have no idea of TB's roster or if they have any free agents leaving after this Season. I guess they could make a trade to make room for Drouin. I guess I am a little biased because I would love to see what we could get for him in a Q Memorial Cup year.

If you are playing in the CHL when you are drafted in to the NHL, then you can't play in the AHL until you are 20 years old (I believe he could play when the Mooseheads season is over). If you are not playing in the CHL when you are drafted into the NHL, you can play in the AHL as a 19yo. I think Stefan Matteau Jr is a recent example of this. Got drafted by New Jersey out of the USNTDP, played his 18yo season with Blainville, but then was able to play in Albany this season as a 19yo.

Looking disinterested might be what gets him sent back.....I imagine TB wants him playing his best. I doubt that he is sent back, but it wouldn't surprise me. I expected him to run away with the league scoring title this year, but that isn't happening.......I know he has played less games than Mantha, but he's not even leading in the ppg category.

Part of it is disinterest - I doubt he cares much about the scoring title/pace at this point in his career. He has also been focusing more on his all around game compared to what he did last year. Part of it is also that we rarely see him on the PP late in blowout games to pad the stats like other teams do I would be shocked if he was back in junior next year. This year I wasn`t at all really, at 18 he still had to grow more of his game and get stronger. But next year sending him back would be a mistake imo. If TB don`t feel he is ready, I wouldn`t be shocked to see him involved in a big trade and he will play for whoever trades for him. TB have good depth up front and if they have soured on him in any way based on his 1st camp and potential attitude issues this year, they may cash him him for top value sooner rather than later to fill some team needs.

Drouin to Montreal (e5) would probably work out good there......the coach likes to over use the small Quebec guys.
