Also I think they mentioned ticket sales for tonight to be better....4500 range perhaps? Looking forward to going. It's been a while. Yes tickets sales are better but there is no way the crowd increases by almost 1300 fans. I'd be absolutely shocked if the Cats reached 4000 or even came close. 4250.....Not too far off in my prediction....but by Price is Right rules, I lose because I went over.

I was pleasantly surprised. They seemed to have a lot of hockey teams and such so while the intermissions were annoying due to them rattling off a bunch of names for 10 minutes, it was nice to see they gave away some tickets to put some butts in the seats.

A large part of the attendance drop is companies that buy season tickets or get them as part of their advertising purchases and do not purchase for the playoffs. The bandwagonners and redwigs start jumping on in the 2nd and 3rd round "Hey they're good this year, let's go"

I can attest to the fact the tickets weren't given away.....I was there with one of my oldest boys who plays hockey. We paid group rates which I was perfectly fine to do. Go Cats

The bandwagonners and redwigs start jumping on in the 2nd and 3rd round "Hey they're good this year, let's go" In the current playoff format, the first round is just very unappealing to fans, regardless of whether your team is a contender or not. It is relatively infrequent that you match up with a natural rival, for one. Due to the 1-16, 2-15, etc. format, most series are over quickly with little or no drama - the outcome is known before the first puckdrop. And for the series' where you may get a close battle (the 7-10, 8-9 series'), those fans tend to not be overly invested as they know that even if their team gets through a tough battle in round one, the writing is on the wall that they will be quickly dispatched in round two.

The guy I sit beside said last night ... "these guys don't hate each other ... they don't even know each other". The rivalry is really missing in this series and I think that plays into our lack of intensity coming out of the gate. Our 2nd last home game of the regular season was against CB ... it was a pretty exciting game even though we lost. I wouldn't call CB a great rival of ours but they are a team that our guys have played against enough to dislike them. Vs BBA ... prior to the playoffs we hadn't played them since October 10 ... we played them twice in a two week period ... 2 of our first 11 games of the season. Both teams have evolved quite a bit since then with trades and signings ... and each team has not even thought about the other since early October.
