I have a feeling Fortier will have a good series against Gatineau when played. I do not think he will be a defensive liability in this series. He just might surprise some people on this board !

I'll say Mooseheads in seven. I think Halifax will play with the Olympiques at the Metro Centre but struggle at the Bob.

I think this series will be the composure test. If we can't keep our composure against Gatineau, we'll be in trouble. Gatineau's PP struggled against Cape Breton, but they have enough fire power that they'll be able to snap out of it given the opportunity. If we can stay calm and make them take penalties against us, we can burn them. It comes down to the players knowing what to expect, and also the coaching staff preparing the players well.
We're going to get "different" officiating in Gatineau as well, and we should be ready for it.

This is a series I will be watching as an Islander fan, I want to see if Pepin has improved any and also the rumors of Krabacek coming here at the draft have got me intrigued enough to order these games. I say the moose in 7 if Hull is gonna win this series they will do it by getting a split in Halifax and winning all 3 at the Bob. They do not want to be going back to the Metro Center even or trailing that's for sure. Good luck to both teams should be the best series of the next round.

First, I would like to wish all Moosehead fans a great series!!Here is my breakdown on Gatineau:
Our top two lines can be very dangerous, lots of firepower. Our second line was the best against the Screaming Eagles. That is Reway/Tardiff-Richard/Karabacek. Our first line of Dunn/Burke/Poirier can also put the puck in the net. Your club will always need to worry when these guys are out on the ice. Our third and fourth lines will not score much, if at all. But they do grind fairly well, and have some size and toughness.
On defense it is my opinion that the Olympiques are under-rated. Our kids are not big, but they are quick and agile, they move the puck well, and are capable of jumping into the offense.
Of course the Mooseheads have a huge edge in goaltending. Steeves is capable of playing well, but is generally inconsistent. But he did play well last year against your boys, and in our building you only beat us in each game by one goal and then an empty-netter.
As far as coaching goes, it is true that Groulx often finds a way to get his clubs into top form in the playoffs, despite what was another typically inconsistent regular season for his teams. We are better than a middle of the pack 8th place club, no doubt about this. The man runs an excellent bench and watches carefully what the other coach is doing.
Our power play absolutely sucks, it has sucked all year, and in fact if you go back to past years you see the same thing. Groulx teams never have a good power play. But, we are VERY good at killing penalties, your boys will need to watch out or we will score some short-handed goals.
As far as injuries go, Gatineau is quite healthy. We lost a 16, Dostie, who really looks like a great prospect for the next two years, and a hard-working third line player, Beckstead. But other than this, we are in good shape.
It is hard to predict what will happen, hockey is a funny game, especially at the junior level. We only saw your boys once this season in our building and we handled them fairly easily. But now it is the playoffs. Certainly Halifax must be considered the favourite. You have the best goaltender, the best player, the experience of last year and home ice advantage. I expect the series to go at least six games, maybe seven.
Again, good luck!! And I look forward to our discussions as the series moves along. I think it should be an exciting, fast paced series with both club sticking pretty much to hockey.

I feel that the experience our D has will push us through. It'll be a challenge for sure, as like you, I expect this to be a pretty fast-paced series. There will be a few defensive breakdowns on both sides. Injury wise, we lost Austyn Hardie and Brent Andrews last series, but I think they'll be good to go for Friday night. Darcy Ashley is our best all-around player, and he could possibly be out for the series. Other than Ryan Falkenham who has been our since October, that's it for injuries on our side.

Our last game against Gatineau in February, we won 5-1 but only had 18 shots on goal. That must have been a season low - probably by a wide margin. That is the type of game we should expect, and hopefully we can grit it out. Gatineau typically smother teams and capitalize on mistakes.

Up in Gatineau, we had 29 shots. But penalties and one short-handed goal cost us that game. In Halifax, we played a pretty bad game and won 5-1. Steeves let in 5 goals on 11 shots. Pretty much the only reason we won the game. Special teams are going to be critical. We have to score on our chances.

Gatineau will need all of the following 3 things to work in order to beat Halifax:
1. A PP around 20% and a PK around 80%; 2. Solid (not necessarily spectacular) goaltending; 3. Capitalizing on chances, you cannot afford to miss an open net against Halifax.
I'm not concerned about our D. Carrier may be 17, but he's rock solid in his own end. Beauregard, Deslauriers, Bérubé, Schumacher and Crevier-Morin are steady enough to play against Halifax's lines 2 to 4.
Is it possible? I think it is. We'll se soon enough!

Well since weak division can't be used...lol...forget it, gotta use it anyway. ...I actually think weak division is what makes this one hard to call. Halifax in a division where 1 team has a shot...Gatineau in a division where 4 or 5 teams have a shot. Halifax coasted to a division title...Gatineau played tough hockey all year. One team hasn't been tested yet, the other was tested on a game by game basis. Might be a little easier if the divisions were closer together......advantages could be argued for both sides, with Halifax being more rested, or with Gatineau being more "tough game" ready. That being said, I picked Halifax in 6...thought about 7, but chose 6...The top line factor is always there, weak division or not....and they are the only Martime team left.. I would love to see the cup back in the Maritimes for the 5th year in a row, even if it has to be in Halifax.

Haha I was waiting to be called out for it. We just have to be prepared for it not to go our way. For some strange reason it's just different when we play in Quebec. Not necessarily worse, but more difficult to pin down. We just have to mind our Ps and Qs and we'll be fine. Easier said than done when we know Gatineau's game plan will be to get under our skin.

Halifax has that one guy who can win it all by himself. In addition, they have the best junior goalie in Canada. In no way they are overestimated because of the weak division. They did nothing at the trade deadline and were flat out dominant. I wanted to take Baie-Comeau because I tought we have a better shot against them, even though they finished first.
That being said, Gatineau is a well balanced 3 lines team. If the special teams and Steeves are sharp, they can beat any team. That's 2 big «IF», so let's hope it will happen.

Well, we added the leagues most prolific goal scorer for free right after it
