Olympiques in 5 (maybe 6) Without mentioned the phrase "weak division", what's your reasoning? Not calling you out. Just curious. So why do I think the Olympiques will win it in 5 (maybe 6): - I’m biased - I really think that Halifax has the better team - The Olympiques can beat any team in the league (except maybe for Val-d’Or, they have our number) - The Olympiques can lose against any team in the league (go figure) - There worst enemy is themselves - Very poor PP, very good defense, great PK, hot and cold goalie - Our best hockey is 5 on 5 - Halifax’s defense will be tested (be prepared to skate) Whoever will win, it won’t be easy, it’s not last year’s Olympiques and it’s not last year’s Mooseheads. Can’t wait for Friday (and there is a rumor that the game may be televised!)

This is going to Halifax in 6 and my reason's why
-Better Defence -PP is clicking know we've won 17 straight -Best Goalie in the league -Our Coach has a great resume which speaks for itself -Our top line is clicking but so is the supporting cast -Everyone except Ashley is healthy -Veterans have been there want to win again, the rookies now have a taste of the playoffs -Halifax will be ready to battle always are, Have been since Dom took over as Coach

Can’t wait for Friday (and there is a rumor that the game may be televised!) More than likely the game will be on Eastlink TV here in the Maritimes. Like what Eastlink does on occasion, I wouldn't doubt if a cable provider in your area will get the feed from them. I hope Eastlink gets the games in Gatineau. Like you I suppose, Halifax's worst enemy is themselves. It would be a good game plan to try to knock them off their game. Also, I understand stats in the Maritimes Division don't mean as much, but the top 5 +/- guys in the league (and 7 of the top 8) were Mooseheads. So we're not too bad 5 on 5 either. I also see that Halifax was #1 in short-handed goals, and Gatineau was #2. Fun fact: Baie-Comeau was the best team in the league, and only had 3 short-handed goals all season. Halifax had 3 in a period. Also, Sherbrooke had 16 short-handed goals.

Dunn can be an excellent agitator, you will have to resist getting suckered by him. Both Dunn and Poirier can take a lot of dumb penalties, and I am sure that Groulx will be doing all he can to avoid them. We are not what I would call a chippy team, though all of the penalties might suggest that we are. Again, the team tends to take a lot of dumb penalties that they will need to avoid. Sheppard gets a lot of his penalty minutes in fights, though he too takes some dumb penalties as well. Benoit Groulx is the farthest thing from a good coach. I think that Gatineau will stick to hockey and try to win with hard work, discipline and speed. They are not the type of team that will try to beat Halifax by intimidation. Last year Chapman was the biggest agitator- downright dirty at times. I'm glad he's gone this year. Couldn't have wished a better fate for him to be honest. I mistyped, I meant to say Groulx is the farthest thing from a goon coach. Which is why he got rid of Chapman. I too was happy to see him go.

So what is the reasoning again with the 2-3-2 format. I guess it has to do with the distance between Hull and Halifax? Not a big fan of it. I don't think Bobby would mind an extra trip on the credit card. Anybody not have a problem with it?

I think the 2-3-2 format takes away some of the home ice advantage of the team that earns it.
This is the third time in 7 seasons our clubs have met in the playoffs. In 2008 we knocked you off in four straight with Claude Giroux and Paul Byron leading the way. Last year your boys returned the favour.
I do not expect a four game series this time.

I don't think Bobby would mind an extra trip on the credit card. Anybody not have a problem with it? I think it puts more pressure on the players. It depends on the situation for the fans. Makes the first 2 games more important as a split going away for 3 is scary. Its hard to win 3 straight though, even at home and it makes it more likely you only see 2 games as the higher seed. Coming back at 3 to 2 with 2 home games is nice. If teams not good on the road then the higher seed seems to lose the advantage.

The buzz on the french board is that Gatineau fans pick Gatineau to win, and the majority of everyone else picks Halifax. The stat that keeps coming up is this one. Halifax was 24-2 against Charlottetown, Saint John and Bathurst. They were 23-16 against the rest of the league. I'll throw a couple more numbers out there. We were 2-7 against the rest of the league in December when we were missing Drouin, Ehlers, Fucale, Weegar, Ashley, and Ryan for a good chunk of the month. Never had anything remotely close to a full roster. That leaves us at 21-9 against the rest of the league in the other months (.700), as opposed to 47-21 vs the whole league for the whole year (.691). I don't think we've seen what this team is capable of yet. **Edited for awful math which is still quoted below.

We were 2-7 against the rest of the league in December when we were missing Drouin, Ehlers, Fucale, Weegar, Ashley, and Ryan for a good chunk of the month. Never had anything remotely close to a full roster. That leaves us at 22-9 against the rest of the league in the other months (.710), as opposed to 47-21 vs the whole league for the whole year (.691). I don't think we've seen what this team is capable of yet. It is reasonable to assume we may have finished lower in the standings points wise, with tougher competition. But does anyone think this team aren`t a serious contender? Who would rank us out of the top 5 contenders - because we beat up on weaker teams throughout the year? The division has no relevance right now. We did to the division what we should have, if we were much better than the rest. PEI aren`t a terrible team but we took it to them pretty good without a top defenseman and forward even playing. Like it has been done, compare the teams position by position, strengths vs weaknesses etc. Regardless of division, Halifax has some elite scoring talent leading the way, an experienced defensive group with a top guy like Weegar chipping in offense, and Fucale. I can`t think of many games this year where we looked dominated in any way (the Quebec game was an anomaly with all the PP`s and lack of focus). A few games in December we looked bad but that was far from what this team is now. IMO the final 4 will be a crapshoot if its VD, BC, RIM and us. I like our chances in any series, but any of those teams could win it. Even if we lost to Gatineau, I don`t see them winning the league. And I think we only lose to Gatineau if key injuries come into play for us.
