Did anyone else catch the interview with Roger Shannon on Rogers last night? Nothing earth shattering, but a few interesting tidbits that could have a potential impact for next season. He specifically mentioned being in touch with Malatesta and MacLeod on a regular basis. He didn't say they were for sure coming or anything like that, but it certainly appears as though it's still a possibility. If they could add a couple dman that come in and make an impact that would certainly make next season that much more interesting.
He also talked about Tkachev and seemed to be fairly confident that he will be back next season. He mentioned that Tkachev really wants to come back so that will hopefully all work out. There was also an article in the paper this morning that touched on that topic. Flynn is currently in Europe scouting the Under 18 tournament for this year's import draft and the next. If Barbashev goes in the 1st round of the NHL draft then the Cats get to draft an extra Euro. Seems quite likely that will be the case and so there's homework being done on that front right now.
The other noteworthy thing that Shannon mentioned is that the team is looking to build a foundation so they'll have a strong team every year. Kind of like London, Portland, Edmonton, etc. Obviously that's easier said than done and would require strong drafting every year AND being able to attract some high end American talent. I also think it would require selling off some high end assets to get things started and I don't really see them doing that at this moment. Nonetheless I like what Shannon is saying and it certainly has me intrigued for the future.

It's hard to have a continuously strong team without first having a strong rebuild. Cutting corners on rebuilding, then you end up trading future assets like most recent "run"(all 5 games)where the 2012, 2013 and 2014 1st rounders all got traded away with little to show for it in terms of rebuilding the current team.

Hodge has made mention a couple times this week that Kyle Tibbo will likely be on the team next season. He's playing with Truro and having a very good playoff with them so far. 10 goals in 13 games, which is tied for the league lead. I'm not sure where exactly he's going to fit with all these forwards, but he could be someone to watch for in camp. I still find it very curious that they never called him up for a game this season.

Given the size of the forwards and the fact that he has decent size and uses it, I think he is a guy who should definitely have a spot next year. Having too many smurfs is not a good thing.

I wonder if our two Russians will have difficulty getting visas to return next season ... with the unrest in the Ukraine involving Russia. Russian performers at the NS Tatoo are having difficulty obtaining visas.

They should just stay and train here this summer... Don't think they can without going back for a new visa.

Looks like Blainville is currently having a sale on 20 year olds. Do the Cats get involved? They have three 20 year old defenceman in Talbot-Tassi, Walcott and Hoyles. Could be something to watch for. Doesn't seem like Haas will be back and defence looks like the Cats biggest area of need. I'm not sure they want to go and start trading away good draft picks though.

Looking through the list I like to check out where they are from ... check out the local and Atlantic Canadian kids ... and the US names maybe also. The abbreviations they use for their location are confusing: Qc is obvious NB is pretty clear also IPE is also easy to figure out They have TN and NL for Mewfoundland ... no problem figuring that out by why both ? They have NE for Nova Scotia (Nouvelle Ecosse) ... but there was also an NS in the list ... why both ? Then there were several kids attending US schools that were also noted as NE. I don't think all of them are from Nova Scotia but maybe they are ... or does NE also stand for New England ?

Here is the updated list I guess since it has the players added by teams and americans. theqmjhl.ca/uploads/assets/QMJHL_FR_SITE/Repechage/liste_finale_CSR_7_mai_2014.pdf
