Reading the paper today they came out and said that this guy is an enforcer.
Like I said last night, there's absolutely no need to have a designated fighter in this league anymore or in hockey in general. Completely agree with everything Steve said above. I have no desire to see players sitting out for some guy who can't take a regular shift.
Archaic thinking by the Cats brass here unless this guy can actually play hockey, but it doesn't sound like it.

I think this all comes about because Barbashev felt he had to fight the other night. Verrier was getting under his skin and nobody was doing anything about it ... so Barbashev did. But guys like Garland take a lot of abuse on the ice ... there is always somebody trying to take a run at him after he has put up a few points in a game. However, the game has changed to the point that a designated goon isn't very effective if he can't take a regular shift. You can send a guy out to take on somebody that crossed a line ... but unless he is willing to fight then the enforcer is useless. I suppose if you are up by 3 or 4 goals then you can afford to take an instigator and send a message ... but when the game is close you can't. I could see from the 1st period the other night that Barbashev was going to fight Verrier at some point in the game. Not sure why Rumble didn't see that. Where you have a guy like Lane Cormier who can take a regular shift, they should have put him on their line for a few shifts and let him get in Verrier's face. WE have team toughness ... maybe not the toughest team in the league but we do have several guys that can handle themselves ... especially against guys like Verrier that are just out to shit disturb. Cormier, Bower, Olivier, Klebanskyj, Tibbo, Curtis (before being sent back) are all willing. I'm not a fan of young talent sitting out while a big slow plug takes their spot on the bench. When Lalonde and Tkachev are back ... does that mean a guy like Tibbo is going to sit out from time to time ? Olivier ? Cormier ? I'm not in favour of any of these guys sitting out in favour of a one-dimensional enforcer. I love a good fight as much as the next guy ... but adding an enforcer is just going to be a waste IMO. the game has changed. Verrier went after Barbashev because of a very dangerous hit in front of the Drum bench, not really agitating. Bullshit ... they were at each other all night from about the 2nd shift of the game. Every chance Verrier got he was needling Barbashev after a whistle and Barbashev was listening and giving it back. You could see that Barbashev was annoyed by it all night and then it finally boiled over at the end of the 2nd. Kielly does that as well for Charlottetown when playing against Barbashev. Maybe go to the games and watch.

Surprised there was no penality, could have broke the guy's neck.

I agree with SteveUL. If this new chap is added for a specific "enforcer" role outside of the fan entertainment value, one hopes this player is productive/ contributing outside of dropping the gloves. Past couple of games there have been a few dust-ups so it suggests Cats sent a message that indicates they will not be pushed around - good on them I say.
Having a "Don Cherryism" nothing wrong with a good scrap when required..........

Duquette looked decent in his first game . Although he didn't get into a fight , he challenged their big guns but no one answered the call. I was most impressed with that fact he could take a shift and not looked out of place. He played very safe but that's to be expected right off the bat. Going to be keeping my eye out for him but looks like a decent free addition. Already like him more than Cobham , not that it says much though. Effort was there.

it's very difficult for wildcats and dubeau tonight Dubeau looks like he wants to be traded to a contender. Cats are lucky they played a team's who's best players are 16 and 17 or the score would have been really ugly.

What you're saying is that teams are going to look at his numbers (3.45, 0.882) and think that's what they need to win? Right.

I think once he gets adjusted to the speed, he will be a very efficient fourth liner that can fight and crash and bang

If he wanted to be traded to a contender maybe he could work on stopping routine shots. Disgraceful performance from him tonight. Embarrassing effort from the entire team tonight. One of those games where anyone who went deserved to get a refund.

I posted after the loss last weekend that they can't always rely on scoring to bail them out, because sometimes it won't be there....
Play a little defence first. Too much to ask?

If the thinking they(Cats) are looking at possible contention or a high ranking in post-season, looking again. Games such as last night put a "not effing likely" to that thought. As I saw it there were three goals that Dubeau should have stopped - bar none at this level. Offense was asleep at the wheel for sure............

I don't think you guys are giving nearly enough credit to shawinigan. That was a hard-working,well-coached, gritty, big team with excellent team-work and support for each other on the ice that came in and spanked the cats collective asses-and I can't believe that I used disciplined and Shawinigan in the same sentence either. Yes Dubeau let in 2(maybe 3)that he ~should~ have had,but that doesn't take away from the fact that the right team won the game. Our guys did work hard, but they were spinning their wheels against a relentless opponent. This is a great game to learn from and show the boys what can be accomplished with teamwork, communication on the ice and support for each other. From what I saw last night, whoever gets a W from that Cataractes deserves it and paid for it with a bunch of bruises. They will be a tough team to face in a best of 7 IMO
