Heard Svechnikov was in Cape Breton for the week. He was. Looks good for next year so far. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

He probably won't commit until the NHL draft has passed so he won't fall under the CHL/NHL/AHL agreement. If he is taken in Rd 1 he may play AHL this year or next. Doesn't matter when he commits, he wouldn't be a QMJHL draft pick regardless. He didn't play in the Q in 2013-14.

So if Svechnikov does commit for next year, do we go for it next year?
I would imagine he's likely to be a one year player for us.

So if Svechnikov does commit for next year, do we go for it next year? I would imagine he's likely to be a one year player for us. At this point, that's a bit of a stretch. He'd have to be in the NHL at 19, can't play AHL. Right now, he's a potential 1st round pick but thus far I haven't seen any rankings putting him in the top 10. While 2015 is a deep draft, a player not taken top 10 jumping to the NHL at 19 is pretty unlikely. He could come in, and have an Ehlers type impact (another guy not rated top 10) and maybe if the right team with the right situation comes along he could move on. But I wouldn't be changing any plans based on todays information. I'd say Vegas would have better odds of him returning as an overager, than in the NHL at 19. The Eagles should be staying the course, and continuing down the path they've started. You can always re-evaluate in december.

Might be the best thing to happen to this team in a very long time.
Up front we are extremely deep and skilled and the draft is still 2 days away.
If Dumont can add another veteran D and stabilize the goaltending this team can do some damage in 14-15 and return almost the entire team for 15-16.

If Dumont can add another veteran D and stabilize the goaltending this team can do some damage in 14-15 and return almost the entire team for 15-16. Austyn Hardie is likely available or Halifax. Halifax still has to move one overager. He's a rock solid, stay at home guy. Physical, quality leader. Captain potential. Brings a ton of experience. Practices hard, plays hard kind of guy. Halifax needs some picks, and CB has lots of them and the overage spot. Gets the Eagles competitive this year, and even though he wouldn't play next year would leave behind some things the returning players can take away from, ala Critchlow for Halifax in 2012.
