Great news, what an opportunity for our kids to travel abroad and see places where they might never get a chance to otherwise. Certainly there will be some adjustments to the training camp and pre-season schedule. Will be interestng to see if the team will be selected prior to leaving or will they be able to cayy some extra kids and give them a chance to use the tournament as measuring stick?

Forgot to mention in my previous post, wonder what the status of Hache and Darcy will be for this tournament? Although there is a chance they might not be back, would not want to deny them this opportunity.

I will gladly be the first one to voice this unpopular opinion but I find this whole tournament strange.
Most CHL teams are not even picked by that date. In my mind it resembles something like the Canada/Russia Challenge. Pretty foolish.
Good for the kids that want a shakeup from your typical training camp and to put some positive spotlight on the organization though.

Updated CB Post article online now stating the team will be picked prior to the tourny. I wonder why CB was selected? Great experience. Hopefully they still get their practices and necessary training camp routines in, and not be rushed in order to participate. Odd time of the year - but hopefully will be level playing field in that none of the teams would have had much time together.

But one would think the invitees would be champions from prior year in their respective leagues, not a middle of the pack hopeful for this year.

Should not be a big problem to pick the tam in a week, Dumont probably has a good idea where he is heading anyway.Still very interested in the status of Hache and Darcy.I think most definiteky Darcy will be in camp, although he is drafted he has not been signed yet. Phoenix may have given Hache some idea as to what their plans are for him. No doubt Dumont probably has a better idea on their staus than we do.

Otherwise, some of the posters on here should get a share of his salary for all of their productive and insightful speculation

I must admit that I had never heard of this tournament before hearing the Eagles would be in it. Upon doing some research, this will be its fourth running, all four times in Russia. Last year, the Sudbury Wolves won the tournament. Of note, the website still currently lists the Quebec Remparts as the Canadian representative.
Overall, I think a nice feel good story for this franchise. May even make some people see the team in a favourable light locally. The challenge is having to pick the team quicker but coaches generally know what a lrage part of their tema will look like before trainign camp starts.
I do wonder if there will be any way to watch these games online - I would love to see them!

I see a lot of positive in a mostly returning team getting picked early and spending 3 weeks together in a different country as opposed to keeping 30 kids for 3 weeks and getting down 1 by 1. The calibre of play should be better then Q pre season as well and may give the team a step up to start the season.

The downside is that the lineup will be picked quick but getting the group together would be beneficial.
I would think the Eagles taking part in this has something to do with the fact the team should be fairly decent this year and Dumont being a very outgoing and open person.
Kids are always excited for tournaments that you have to go away for so on that aspect it looks good too.
I still find the tournament a bit out there but that may be because I have also never heard of it before.

For a young team that would hurt a bit but with the team returning so many players there are only 3 or 4 spot legitimately up for debate anyway. Agreed that its an odd style since its a bit unknown but i like it for the exposure aspect of it. I wonder what went into selecting the teams to play in it. I am sure having 2 Russians put us into the picture.

In a sense they will actually be getting a better camp then as long as the other teams will be dressing their season roster. With the exception of the big ice but considering they hosted camp at CBU a few years back that is negligible.
Jet lag as well.
Agreed on the two Russians playing a factor.

I think this tourney is a great thing for the Eagles organization on few fronts. First and foremost it gives the club some world exposure. Secondly having the team picked so soon and being on the other side of the world only strengthens the bonds of the players and coaches. Thirdly I am sure this event is probably scouted and will give some of the Eagles players more opportunity to be seen by many different scouts. I think this is a win win anyway you look at it. The only down side I see is for us fans. For those of us who like to take in training camp. It will be a much short camp than we are use to.

Not even sure how much of a downside the shorter training camp is. Most of the interesting stuff (particualrly the intrasquad games) are usually in the first week anyway so there is no reason to think there will be very much changed there. We do lose one home exhibition game but otherwise I get the feeling we will get most of our usual training camp fix!
