Anybody else hearing that Ehlers is on Toronto's 'most favoured' list?

I sincerely hope he doesn't end up in Toronto lol. I'd be awful sad.

Doesn't that make too much sense given where Ehlers is ranked and Toronto's draft position?

I think he goes to Carolina at 7, I've heard from a few people that their scouts are really high on him.

I'd love to see him dropping down to Tampa's pick at 19 , or even better Colorado's pick at 23.
I have my doubts that he'll be out of the top 10 though.

Flyers are trading up for him. Making things interesting for the hometown fans watching live in Philly.

We've touched on it before, but does Halifax draft a Euro now? Or just pass the pick. I'm not sure of the "unwritten rule" regarding draft players you don't plan to use.

Not sure if they can; if they can, it's not bad to have another asset to use. Ehlers will likely be returned to Halifax, and with Meier here, there's no room for another Import. Maybe they can "stash" another Import in Europe (I, too, am not sure what the rules are on that).

Ehlers went in round one so moose are allowed to draft a euro, however i'm not sure what happens if he doesn't report and ehlers comes back, if they have release the drafted euro or not.

Could they take a gamble on a Euro that was a long shot to report? As I recall Ladislav Nagy was thought to be a long shot at the time he was drafted, but he/Mgmt changed his mind and arrived at 19?

It's not impossible that Ehlers plays in Winnipeg when he's 19, assuming he puts on a few pounds. I think we'll draft a Euro next year, and then use what will likely be a very good Euro pick in two years when Meier is gone (Assuming Meier isn't here as a 20yo).

I think we'll draft a Euro next year, and then use what will likely be a very good Euro pick in two years when Meier is gone (Assuming Meier isn't here as a 20yo). The problem is that this year the Moose don't have a good pick. Sure they can take a flier but next year they will have a much better pick. So Ehlers returns this year. That means the flier you took won't be on the team. But you don't know if Ehlers returns until October. So the flier to play this year would normally be in camp. Good way to upset a kid and lose some valuable Euro connections. Sure you can draft for next year and not even bring the kid to camp this year. The problem here is that next year the pick will be even better. So you could get a better more sure thing next year. But to do that you have to drop the flier you took this year....which asks the question... Why bother?
