Many people prefer NCAA football to NFL football for the same reasons we're discussing here. The NFL is the most profitable league, and the most viewed league in North America. If by "many" you mean thousands, then sure many people do prefer the NCAA. But it's not even close to a majority. NFL has been the most popular sports league for 30 years. I didn't say majority. I said many. I wasn't arguing that it's more popular than the NFL. I was just stating that many (many millions of) people prefer NCAA football to NFL. Many of which believe the gameplay in the NCAA is more entertaining and the players themselves put forth a better effort, because they are striving with every ounce of effort they can produce, to get noticed and make it to the next level regardless of skill level, much like the CHL. It makes for an entertaining product/game. Mistakes are made and crazy plays happen, because the game is less polished. That's the appeal to some. NFL is driven down our throats with the biggest TV deals in sports. It's apples and oranges from a 'revenue' perspective. Although the NCAA makes it's share of money, too. It's a regional thing. Much like CIS vs QMJHL. Halifax just happens to have one of the richest and best run franchises in the CHL so it wins here over CIS which spends no money on advertising or in game entertainment.

NFL has been the most popular sports league for 30 years. Thousands? That's a joke right? There are millions who prefer college over the NFL, there was a poll done as recently as this year that found that NCAA football came in third when asking asking people what their favourite sport is. Sure the NFL came in first because it is the most popular but there were still millions who said they prefer the NCAA. There are tons of states where the NCAA is a bigger deal than the NFL, I'm pretty sure OSU is a bigger deal than the browns or bengals, LSU is a bigger deal than the Saints, same with teams like Notre Dame and Michigan in their respective states. Sure the NFL is king when it comes to sports but you are greatly disrespecting the following that college football has in the states and how many actually prefer it than the NFL. Alabama has over 4 million people themselves and I bet you be hard pressed to find many that prefer the nfl to the tide or tigers. espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10354114/harris-poll-nfl-most-popular-mlb-2ndWhen you compare how many universities/colleges have a team in the NCAA, compared to 30 NFL teams, of course there will be millions closely following NCAA. Couple that with how many cities/towns that have a NCAA team, that don't have an NFL team, and there is millions more. The NFL is a monster in the ratings because it is by far the best managed professional sport. I love NCAA basketball in March, but I have little time for NCAA football. The fact there is no bona-fide national champion, coupled with the fact somebody decides who is in which bowl game, leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I watched 2 periods of the game today. As always it's hard to take away much from those games. You spend 75% of the time looking at the damn sheet! Is there no way to get cheap stick on name plates?
Anyway, up front C. Moynihan looks to have improved. Grown into his body bit more, his skating is better. Mark Vokey was all over the ice. I thought he had an outside chance last year, wonder where they see him this season? Not the biggest, fastest guy, but he's non stop out there and does have some skill. Fortier was pretty good, was dancing with the puck a few times. For an unknown I thought Gabriel Morin was decent. He's likely an early cut, but he showed a bit.
On D, I really like Taillefer's game. Doesn't do too much, calm, poised, just a steady game. Not flashy, but you need guys like that. With Hardie gone next year, I could see a guy like him filling that role, minus the physical play. Taylor Ford was good. I didn't see him last year, but he looked as advertised. Smart 2 way guy.

I also caught the first two periods today.
Up front, the best players were largely the returning guys. Fortier was good. Meier had some flashes. Pretty much any play that resembled actual hockey had a returning guy involved. Vuic looks like he's shed about 20 pounds and actually had a pretty good game. Conor Moynihan also looked like his skating had improved quite a bit.
On D, Jacques had an absolutely brutal game. Two or three blatant gaffes that led to a great scoring chance or a goal. I don't know if he was trying to do too much because he was the most experienced d man in the game or whatever but it was not good. I liked Ford a lot. Worthen/C. Fitzgerald/Taillefer were also solid too I thought.

I also liked Ford. I was critical of him last year but he looks a ton better. I want to see him against another team, maybe on Saturday, but he looks a lot more composed and he's quite good.
Ford and King look like they are ready for the Q.
Jordan King is built solidly, he skates quickly and efficiently, can score, and seemed to be in the play at all times.
Cavan Fitzgerald looked really good too, he seems to have filled out.
Mark Vokey worked his ass off and showed a ton of speed. He'd be very hard to want to cut. Him, King and Vuic were the best forwards on the ice for Green.
Timo Meier didn't play much after the first.. but he looked a lot faster when he did.

Yeah I really liked King too. Great composure and finish on his goal.
And Vokey seemed to be in the middle of the play whenever he was on the ice. Kind of reminds me of Cuzner.

I really liked Fortier last year the few games he played for us wouldn't shock me if he made the team this year, I've heard lots of good things about Ford too so I'm looking forward to seeing his game. (Just curious but what is with us drafting from Lac-St Louis we've got at least 3 good players from them? (Drouin, Ford, Fortier)

I just looked at the updated rosters on the Q site and a few thing popped out at me. First thing I do believe Crossley at the draft was said to be 6' and 165 lbs. looks like he shrunk and lost over 10lbs. He now at 5'10 and 153 lbs. his height doesn't really bother me but 153lbs is not a good thing in this league. I was hopping he'd come in around the 170 mark.
Second thing I noticed was Taillefer. He was listed at 5'10 and 175lbs last year. They now have him at 6'3 (someone had a growth sprit) and 186. I remember him last training camp and thinking he's one smooth skater just a little small. If this is true man he could be a lock for the backend on this team. We need some size.
Last thing was Ford he was 5'11 last year and now he's 6'1. Looks like we're going to get bigger on the backend for sure then.

I don't doubt that for some NCAA is more entertaining...agree with you on that point. Same with fans in Canada and Us, some prefer NCAA or CHL hockey to NHL games. In terms of effort, I would bet the average NFLer tries a lot harder than college players, the NFL being so competitive and so few jobs to be had. The difference between a star and a guy on the street is not huge. A lot easier to get by on talent alone in college, while the pros the opponents are all great.

I'm interested to see if Jordan King sticks around. From what I gather he had a spot on the team last year but chose to keep his NCAA eligibility. Him trying out as an 18yo perhaps shows he's ready to step into our lineup.
I think we're going to have a speedy hard-working team this year. Hopefully we can give some teams fits. I'd love to be competing every year. But it'll be relaxing to just sit back and watch hockey and not worry about where we finish this year.
