Alright let me try my hand at this. It's been a while since I made a game thread.
Cape Breton rolls into town for the first time this season as part of "Rivalry Weekend" in the queue. This is the 1st of back/back games against the Eagles, as they play again in Sydney on Sunday. Cape Breton is 6-6-1-0 (13 Pts), good for 3rd in the Maritimes Division and 10th overall. Halifax is 3-6-1-1 (8 Pts), good (bad?) for T5th in the Maritimes division and T17th overall.
Top Scorers:
Cape Breton - Kyle Farrell (13GP 13G 10A 23Pts), Evgeny Svechnikov (12GP 5G 13A 18Pts), Maxim Lazarev (13GP 8G 8A 16Pts)
Halifax - Timo Meier (11GP 5G 6A 11Pts), Ryan Falkenham (11GP 5G 2A 7Pts), Morgan Nauss (7GP 1G 6A 7Pts)
Halifax has a 16yo defenceman tied for 2nd on team scoring. Morgan Nauss has been quite a surprise since day 1 of training camp. But unfortunately that's more to do with the utter lack of scoring on the Moose this year. Halifax has scored just 26 goals, which is 9 less than any other team in the league. Gadoury and Ehlers should get us going in that department, but even they've started off slowly. After getting 4 points in his first game back, Gadoury has 1 point in 6 games since then. Ehlers has 1 goal in his first 3 games. Both of those guys will have to step it up a notch.
On the flip side, Cape Breton has scored the most goals in the league. They're off to a so-so start, with 6 wins in 13 games. This is a perfect matchup for them, as they get to face a team that isn't scoring, and a team that has a young defence.
I think I predicted 4-3 Cape Breton in FNP, but it could be messier than that. Hopefully the Moose can pop a few more goals in, and surprise us tonight. Go Moose!!

I'm going with a 5-2 win CB. I don't see there being any chance of Halifax winning this game. Fucale will have to play his best game so far this year I think to just be in it.
I am looking forward to see this new Russian play for CB. I think he will have a field day with Halifax's defence. I see Halifax having a parade to the box because they can't keep up. Then CB's PP% is going to go up.

Should be interesting tonight. As much as id love to see a win I think it will be a CB win unless they can play as a team for 60 mins instead of 10 mins in the 2nd. Murphy has got to play better then he has, worry about your position and stop trying to play like Mack. Stick falkenham on defence for the night and run 8 d , and play the trap, its boring but effective. Go Moose Go!!!!!

Should Falkenham be playing on the 2nd line? Does he have that much offensive upside and if not who moves up?

Should Falkenham be playing on the 2nd line? Does he have that much offensive upside and if not who moves up? Speaking of lines, I'm not sure D.Moynihan is the best option to centre the top line. I'd like to see Meier-Gadoury-Ehlers there. Even Fortier i think might be better than Moynihan. fortier-Gadoury-Ehlers Meier-D.Moynihan-Falkenham Watt-Shewfelt-C.Moynihan And when you say Falkenham doesn't have the offensive upside, who further down the line up does? I think that's why he is on the 2nd line! Shewfelt is the only one in the conversation.

Mixed up the lines a bit tonight which has been nice to see. Ehlers-Gadoury-Meier has looked good out there.
I must say so far Gibson has not looked out of place on the back end. He has played better than Josh Fitzgerald has for us. Wouldn't mind Gibson sticking around for a bit.

I think where we have struggled to score goals (and Gadoury has been in a slump despite playing well most times IMO) we should stick the top 3 guys together. Let them play off eachother and take the brunt of the responsibility to score goals. The rest of the guys can mix and match with less pressure and hopefully find a groove too. Good showing tonight although still lots of great chances for CB as should be expected given who they have and how we tend to play in our zone. Fucale very good so far. This would be a nice win to get, 1 period left!

I think the Mooseheads are giving the opposition a lot of dangerous scoring opportunities which is why Fucale's stats aren't the greatest. Like CB's second goal, the Mooseheads actually skated away from Brunelle and he had lots of space and time to take his shot on Fucale. I still think Fucale is a quality goalie and should be of interest to a few teams in December.

Well that was a surprise. What a fun night at the rink. Crowd was into the game from the get go. We will be the farthest thing from consistent this year, but we do have some hidden scoring pop that came out tonight. Yah it'll be frustrating at times. But should make for some entertaining games.
Was disappointed that Darcy wasn't there tonight (But not too disappointed). Is he hurt or just not back yet?
Fucale played well. Probably wanted those two goals back, but kept the Moose in it. Ehlers was his old self again. I also thought Gibson played well. Anything we can do to steady the back end is a good option at this point.

Darcy had a scratched cornea and is hoping to be back on Sunday from what I understand

Was a great win tonight Joe.
When they scored early with an ify shot the mood was not good. To give Zach credit he was cheating on the shot cause the big Russian was wide open on the other side. After that Zach was very very good. Stopped three or four breakaways, which is an issue, and was just solid. Couple of attempted wrap around right in front of me his pad was glued to the ice and the post. He was following the puck and I think is working on his wrist shot cause sent a couple of hard passes to the apposing blueline.
Having a player like Ehlers is a difference maker. He was on a mission tonight and was totally pissed at the refs. In 3 of the 4 instances he was right. The more he got called for penalties, hacked and pulled down the better he played. I hope Dom keeps that line together, they where way bette then anyother line on the ice tonight, for either team.
Fortier is growing with each game, he will be fun to watch.
It is still an adventure getting the puck out of our zone but we did look a little better and made the simple play a lot more the we have lately.
For a team that many though was the best in the division Cape Breton did not impress me. Their dee did not play as good as ours, their best players did not stand out, although Zach was part of that. They also got out goaltended big time. I think their goalie is a big waste of a 20 year old spot.
Always good to kick the Eagles out of the MetroScotiabank Centre.
The test will be can we do it again Sunday?
Go Moose!!!!!!!!!!!!
