You can't see the future. No1 knew that pick would be #1.
We got unlucky Leblanc got hurt, we got unlucky here too.
We 100% overpaid, esp now, but Leblanc is a hell of a player. A guy who wants to be here.
Drafting players has to be harder as a place players know they can get away from with bad play/refusing to report.
Dumont needs to do his homework and pick the right guys.
Not our worst trade in history.

I still like the trade despite it being 1st overall, doubt Bell ever turns his play around based on when I've seen from him but we'll see.
At the time I thought the Drum pick was the best of the 3 picks to trade, I'm sure CB management did as well.

If the Eagles select 4th, they should draft Baribeau (G) or Chartier (D). I watched a couple of Quebec games from the CWG and really liked him. He's already over 200 pounds at 15 and plays a high tempo type game but does so responsibly. I've never seen Baribeau but he's suppose to be the best goalie in the draft and is 6-foot-4. If they go with a goaltender Baribeau is a great choice ... that or D'Orio but I think Baribeau has more upside and he's already 6'4" If they wanna draft a D Antoine Crête-Belzile is the best D in the draft ... Ironically Baribeau and Belzile both played for Séminaire St-François They could potentially get one fo the goaltenders at #6 and take Belzile at #4 ... that being said if Veleno is in the draft take Morand if he's still on the board hands down! He's a forward but he's the best player available at #4 if Veleno is granted exceptional status.

The trade obviously sucks now, but if didn't make the that trade, we probably wouldn't have been in the playoffs or if we made it, swept by Bainville/Rimouski.

If the Top 2 plus the Veino Kid are Head and Shoulders above everyone else ( which seems to be the case ) then this Trade goes down as a complete screw up unless LeBlanc turns out to be a Top 3 Defenceman in the Q . A Title makes everyone forget about it but it looks first hand as a mis-calculation by Dumont forced because of a disaster of a first half ....what was so wrong with Bell and The O'Leary Pick for LeBlanc ? Maybe there is something we don't see about LeBlanc that the Sea Dog Posters could enlighten us on ....

He and Leveille are potentially the best D pair in the league in terms of returning defencemen. You weren't getting Leblanc without giving up one of the 3 high 1sts. Why would anyone want O'Leary in place of that? He was a late 1st refusing to report. History puts his value as a 2nd round pick or so...nothing near the 3 1sts we already had. You pretty much nailed it with the disaster of a 1st half causing Dumont to panic a bit but I always felt he had no choice but to move picks for players because of the absolute lack of players this organization has developed. Outside of high 1sts, Euros, or the results of the Roy trade this is one of the worst run teams in the Q the last few years. His choice was to move what he had to build around Dubois or try and put a top team on the ice next year led by Svechnikov. If he chose to wait, he doesn't get to see that plan through to the end. So waiting was never really an option.

Not our worst trade in history. Certainly, no one knew that this would be the no.1 pick. But I personally thought, at the time, that Drummondville was the worst one to trade. Drummondville had unloaded big time. Chicoutimi had more upside potential. And Cape Breton were bound to improve. It would appear to be that Saint John had the Drummondville pick as a stipulation. Hindsight is 20-20 but Cape Bretons pick would have been the logical fair choice. They have to do what they think is best for the team, and their goals. But this is why I personally would have waited until the draft to make moves. If this team could not have made the playoffs this year, with some basic upgrades, then maybe our expectations of going for it next year are unrealistic. I accept that it seems the majority of posters are in a throw all in for next year mode. I personally like the opportunity of watching high end prospects develop, sort of developing with our drafts picks. I have read some posts of people willing to trade up to 2017 picks for next year. If that is the case, it could spell the end of this franchise after next year. This team cannot afford one good year and a 4 or 5 year drought.

No but that doesn't mean the decision shouldn't be analyzed. God knows people would love to do it if Halifax of Bathurst gave away the #1 overall pick in a year they finished in the 13th overall position. We all know you choose not to have an opinion without hindsight anyway or have we finally moved past that discussion? Do you even realize what you're saying? You're bashing me for not changing my mind every 3 months. If the SJ pick is bad and the 4/6 picks are Dubois-ish, you'll change your mind again. Not saying you'd be wrong for changing your mind but don't try to berate me for not flip flopping as often as you. Nothing to do with flip flopping. It's all in your post history. Not getting into it with you. Those interested can look for themselves and make their own conclusions but you're not fooling anyone with your act here. Easier to put you back on blocked since you'll be posting now that there's no more games or players to watch. You sure love talking about a team it seems like you've never seen.

You claim to have read several. Please show us who is making those claims. We can't afford another Durocher like gutting of top draft picks while parading 5th rounders in the CB Post as the future of the team.

He was. In 2-3 months time the value of Bell, Pelletier, and Darcy became nothing for some reason. But nobody is able/willing to ask the tough questions of why in terms of the media. All fluff articles about the hard working Eagles losing in 7 games after a miracle turn around ignited by trading all those players plus picks and other kids for veterans not developed here who actually brought a consistent work ethic. How disappointing is it that a Gosselin comes here and plays harder then most of the players who were here? He couldn't wait to get on a potential contender and show what he can do. Played hard. We need more of that from our own players, imported leadership usually fails in this league.

At the time I thought a 3rd+Belanger was awful for Pelletier but I think the problem with him is more on himself than any coach, his 2nd half stats with R-N were worse than his first half stats with us, so unless the R-N coach is also like Dumont I think its about time so of the blame be put on the players. Bell was scratched a few games in a row before the playoffs in SJ and from most accounts I've read has been more or less still the exact same type of player since leaving CB. Darcy is one with a legitimate case, him and Dumont clearly were not seeing eye to eye. I don't think Dumont is a good coach at all but I think its a bit unfair to blame him for all those guys when only Darcy really turned his play around. (and Brassard but I don't see why he'd be mad at the coaches when he was being gifted starts he didn't deserve in order to try and get him back on track)
