Garland has really been the story the past few weeks, but raise your hand if you thought Stephen Johnson would be tied for the team lead in goals in mid-November. I realize 9 of those goals have come in the past 5 games but...wow. What a breakout for him!
Leger is starting to get it going again as well. Wicked shot on the first goal. Really not sure why he was in and out the line-up just a couple weeks ago. Right from the first game he was getting a couple good scoring chances almost every game.

Funny, the team has been a lot better with Tkachev out of the lineup...maybe his play this year was hurting the team...a whole lot of floating and waiting for somebody to get him the puck.

They clearly don't have the assets to "load up" so they should be looking at moving a few veterans to build a better team down the road. Losing Lalonde Dubeau Batbashev and Tkachev with no return would be a big blow to the franchise.

So they have a winning record with Lalonde and Tkatchev out of the lineup. Maybe... but they have let in 8 goals in the past two games. They had to do a comeback from 3-0 against Halifax. Sure it shows character. I'm happy with the wins. But they'll need to be much better defensively if they even want to be considered pretenders. It's ridiculous to rely on Barbachev and Garland to score 2 goals per game each in order to win games. Lalonde knows how to play in a defensive system. Have the Rumble provide them one and he'll lead the way.

Even with a better system you still need to go out and add 3-4 big pieces...impossible to do that correctly without really emptying the cupboards. Even if you did Your tradeable assets... 2015 1st rounder 2016 1st rounder Leger Holwell Corson Sweeney at the draft Not sure if Garland and Murphy are tradeable. Not sure that gets you the 3 big pieces you need...and it leaves a mess for the next 2-3 years.

I think they can compete with the role players they have. If you were to bump Smith and Johnson to a 3rd line with Leger you'd be fine there...Cormier Olivier Bower Tibbo and co can be a good 4th line. Askew? On defense if you had Sweeney as #2 and Johnston as #4...then Malatesta Lukezic Klebanskyj as #5-6-7, you'd be fine there too. However, in order to get to that situation, you'd need 4 big pieces added. The only role player I might add is a back up goalie if I was contending, Rioux is a pretty mediocre #2.
