I know there is a lot of negatives about the game, but did anyone notice that Garrett Johnston played a very good game. About time but nice to see. Agreed. I thought he played a great game. He seemed to be more confident carrying the puck like he did last year. Hopefully this will carry over to the next games. I thought Johnston looked great also....we need him to do more on the blueline and he is capable. It was a disappointing end to the game. I thought Barbashev's penalty with 2 minutes left to play wasn't warranted. That kind of stuff happens all the time and nothing comes from it....When they scored the 3rd goal on the PP, I said we are heading for overtime.....you could see the scrambly play unfolding. I'm sure they got more than an ear full after the game...

One of those plays where you can't really complain about the penalty because, technically, it was a legit call. It just bugs me when the game is called inconsistently, because they let that kind of stuff go all game. There was an instance where Garland was pinned to the boards for a good 4-5 seconds without the puck and no interference call, etc....and I'm sure the Cats got away with a few things too. But if that's the way it's gonna be, don't change with 2:00 minutes to go.
That all being said....you gotta buckle down and protect a lead. Once you give up the PP goal, everyone should bear down even more. No excuses for blowing a 2 goal lead that late no matter what you think of the penalty call.
The worst part is that you could just feel it coming. It's not quite so bad if your opponent "wins" the game with some good work....but it sure sucks when it feels like you "lost" the game through your own sloppiness.

Good point....I suppose you're right. It was a legit call but the officiating was inconsistent Saturday as it was on Friday.

Comebacks like that have to be on the coaches more now. One time fans would bitch because the coach did not call a timeout to settle down the team and get their heads back in it. With reviews after the goals giving a free timeout the game has changed. Momentum in respect to one team getting on a roll is no longer a quick drop of the puck anymore.

Wht did you feel it was a good call? for where we sat it looked like just a check? No ... it was a good call ... his hand hit the Drum player in the head. It wasn't intentional ... but he hit him in the head. I'd want that called if it was against my team. Barbashev played a fairly reckless game as Verrier had got under his skin early on ... and he took a few runs at players that were borderline. I predicted the fight in the 1st period because you could see Barbashev was pissed and looking for pay back. Because of the way he played the game ... that late call was the right call.

Not that the Cats played a good third period by any means, but that third goal was brutal. No way that should have gone in. Felt like everyone in the building knew they were going to tie it up after that.

The 3rd goal was brutal and it's too bad because I felt Rioux had played a decent game up until that goal.....I'm sure he would agree that he would like to have that one back.

I would agree that I thought he played pretty well too. But that seems to be the story with Cats goaltending most games this season. Play pretty well, make some big saves and then let in a weak goal or two at some point.

Rioux was pretty solid for a back up last year in the short time he was here, this year he's been more shaky than solid...maybe they look at bringing in Dupre or somebody else?

As far as I am concerned he has been everything you expect from a young backup. He looks very good to me ... good rebound control ... good positionally. All he needs now is playing time to get into a groove ... but that won't happen too much this year. He has been more solid than shaky IMO.

He is 18, so he isn't really a "young" goalie, he should be entering his prime. If he isn't going to be a #1 quality guy next year, then bring somebody else in...Dubeau is gone in 5-6 months.
