Fellow bloggers and fans, prepare yourself for that awful thud when the Eagles hit the bottom of the standings. Given their present pace, that could happen by weeks end. We are now officially two points out of last place and have allowed the second most goals in the league. What a mess, scorers aren't scoring, defence is terrible and goaltending is OH WELL. Add to that poor coaching and this is what you have. I wonder if someone is going to take a look at this pretty soon before we dig a hole we cannot climb out of. On the positive side, we only have one way to go (UP HaHa)

What should have been one of our more enjoyable seasons may have turned into our worst.
Easy to accept losing when you have limited talent and a lot of youth.
No excuse for anyone in the Organization accepting this season and the effort put in.
The silver living is the draft picks and prospects in our system. But at some point that has to start producing results on the ice.

I have been SO quiet for SO long, but I have to add my two cents.
Dumont is an awful coach. Good GM, awful coach.
Players hate his style - very VERY short shifts, he never lets a line play more than a game (or period) together. When guys are scratched, he doesn't tell them until they get to rink to dress. Other teams let guys know in the AM who is / isn't playing.
Has had 2 guys quit on team already this year (Gray and Paul) and expect more to do the same.
The revolving door of players only adds to the discontent. Every day someone new coming in, and doing nothing.
Farrell and the Russians are doing their job. Darcy has checked out, Bishop and Pelletier are not performing the way NHL drafted players should perform.
Bell and Lalonde doing the best they can, but each shift they are playing with a different partner. Don't even get me started on 1 assist Nosella.
Goaltending has been abysmal, at best, never giving the team a chance.
If Dumont were smart he'd hire a real coach - stick to the GM role - and let the coach lead the players on the ice.

Well said PaulyBoy, couldn't agree more. Someone needs to have a long, hard look at where this team is headed. This guy is not a coach, the sooner the higher ups see that, the better.Doesn't matter if you bring in 5 stars at the deadline, not going to work if we don't have a coach. Not the first time I heard that the kids don't like playing for him, including Darcy.

Amazing.............it wasn't that long ago when there were posters on this very Board who wanted to give this guy......................... "A LIFETIME CONTRACT" Amazing how 27 games can change how people are viewed in sports but that's the nature of the beast. A GM is only as good as the job of his coach. So if your really good GM is a shitty coach success will be difficult to achieve. I agree with the stance that as a GM he has done very well. He has accumulated some very good assets which could have / should have been the basis of at least 2 legitimate championship contending seasons. Problem is that the coach has everyone feeling like we're already going to be in tough to turn this thing around and be a top team next season. I personally think a new coach and 3-4 veterans in and 1-2 veterans out completely turns this thing around. How much? I still would like to believe the sky is the limit with the core we have as there's enough pieces there that if a coach can get them to buy into something they'd be tough to keep up with for most teams at this level. Would be interesting to know what ownership thinks.

Ownership will sat pat i think. Not what we want, but i just can't see them having the balls to fire him as a coach and keep him as GM. Money also plays into it i think. Mario and paul macdonald are living proof of this organizations mistakes on not pulling the trigger at the right time.

For whatever the reason is, things are not working out for this skilled group of players. I don't know if it's due to an overall lack of compete or grit or 19 year old leadership but the season so far has been very disappointing to say the least.
It will continue to be just as disappointing in the future if changes aren't made at Christmas to turn the atmosphere and on ice product around for the rest of this year and especially for next year. Several players have not shown the improved play and consistency that you hope comes from a year's experience and a change of scenery might be good for them and for the team.
Players owe it to themselves and to the fans to give their best, each and every night like many Eagles teams in the past did!
