So these are the guys that are possibly on the block. Fucale Gadoury Murphy Hardie Ehlers? Ehlers would be a bit of a stretch. Can't see the Mooseheads trading both Hardie and Murphy, maybe only if the get a filler on D coming back. Gadoury would be a great chip if GM's see the big picture on him and not just his play this year. If we traded the majority of these guys, I don't see how we don't finish in the bottom three. I am really hoping for a SELL for a quicker turnaround. It seems like every team, maybe except for Bathurst, knows when to Sell. Not sure why the Moosheads have a hard time figuring it out. Gotta have players other teams want. Russell has not had that luxury during a down year. When he took over as GM, the first few years were stripped bare from the 2008 Marchand debacle, as well as no good returning vets. He literally had nothing of value to trade for 3 years. In year 4, the upswing started with Mackinnon, Drouin, etc, so he certainly wasn't going to sell then- plus his best players were 16. The next 2 years they were contenders. This is really the first year where the team should sell, and has 19-20's that other teams would want. Murphy and Hardie wouldn't have great value. Hardie is an OA and not a great one at that. Murphy has had a rough year, might be best to keep him rather than than get a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Ehlers is a no brainer to trade...he's unlikely to be back next year, plus you have Meier coming back so you could draft pretty early in 2015 and again use your 1st in 2016 to stagger your Euros(as those picks can no longer be traded). Fucale is a no brainer, as is Gadoury unless he has a no trade clause...

If a contender was looking for an overager.. i'd take Hardie before Gadoury... and it isn't even close
But I don't think there are many overage slots to upgrade on contenders right now
Murphy may have had a rough year but being 19 and likely to be back as a 20 makes him the most likely to get better value for in a trade..... 19 year old D look to be a scarce commodity this year unless some surprise teams decide to sell
Ehlers unlikely to be back next year? Based on what? I'd say there is a decent chance he is back next year but again trading Euros can be tricky..... altho I guess Quebec could be in the market if they can't convince their other Euro to come over mid-season

Kills me to say it because I'm a big Fucale Fan but I can see us dealing him for another goalie, Ehler's is not a no brainer I think there's probably like 5% chance we trade him; there's no guranatee he won't be back next year(plus his no trade clause, and no I don't have any in's I just remember reading he had a no trade clause in the media), Gadoury I can't see going anywhere because I'm still a big believer he has an arrangement to report to Halifax. Murphy I could see us dealing, Hardie is probably a longshot. Will be an interesting trade period for sure!

If say BC for example upgraded there 19 yr old and Ehlers came back they have a prime asset. They could still draft one as he is a first rounder but again cost is the issue. Hardie has so much more experience than people give him credit for because of his lack of offense. Plays hard nose D and leader that is hard to measure. Gadoury would have to go to a team that needs that one offensive guy to a mostly finished roster.

Baie Comeau could not trade their second Euro.. he hasn't been in the league for a year yet and the upgrade from Zykov to Ehlers is not that significant like i said it's hard to trade a euro these days... especially at Christmas time

It seems every year fans are discussing their wish list for their contender team, and more often than not, guys like Murphy and Hardie are the exact type everyone wants - Top 4 type guys, mobile, very experienced, and good players overall. Not sure why people are saying nobody would want either for a good price (Hardie I discount only because he is a 20, same with Gadoury). Nearly every year, fans want a gritty/physical stay at home type - or - a good skating, mobile type. You can never have enough of these guys able to play in your top 4. There should be demand for Murphy at the very least where he is 19 - regardless of how many errors he may have made this year. It may be harder to move the 20s. We are almost at .500 now with Murphy/Hardie playing basically as top pairing guys and eating a ton of minutes. They would be a big addition to any top teams defensive core imo.

Never bothered looking since assumed he 19.

Yep, it seems if Halifax wanted to trade for Murphy the asking price would be 1st round picks and a prime asset, but since Halifax is the one trying to deal him, he's worth a 2nd or 3rd lol. 19 YO top 4 dmen NEVER come cheap. Add in that Murphy is an above average skater and puck handler who is simply trying to do too much and making mistakes, and he's worth more than a typical top 4 dman because the potential is there for him to contribute a lot to a contender.

Their front office sees him as a top 9 player next year. He had 104 points at 17 so other than adding some size and strength, he doesn't have a lot to prove in the Q.

Ehlers is not likely to stick in the NHL next year. He's about as 50/50 as it gets. He had a boatload of points last year but he was playing with the best player in the CHL. It will completely depend on his performance and impact in camp and preseason.
Every year there are guys that are expected to stick that are sent back, and guys that are long-shots that stick. It's all dependant on how they look at the time. Not on past accomplishments.

So is this a catch 22 with Ehlers? So we should trade him if he is not coming back, but then teams won't give us as much because he won't be back next year. Or we shouldn't trade him because he will be back next year, but maybe we should because we will get more for him. I am confused. lol.

It would be dumb for Halifax to gamble on Ehlers being back, they need to rebuild and him and Fucale are their only big chips. Plus they'll need to draft a Euro for Meier in 2016, would be easier to use their fairly early pick in 2015 instead of passing on it.
