Credit to Ducharme for the improvement in this team the last 6 weeks. The team was a mishmash of whatever at the beginning of the year, play was scattered, disorganized, but he has this group overachieving big time right now. Guys away, injuries, legal problems, trade rumours, doesn't seem to matter, he always gets the most out of a group. Great coach. Yeah, but lets wait and see how he does with an even WORSE roster before we call him a good coach, ok? It's true - the theme to his coaching always seems to be that the team work to find or learn their identity/style for a couple months, but then you see a consistent team approach game after game. It's a style that eventually allows him to sub guys into bigger roles or different roles, and they know exactly what to do even if they are playing over their heads a bit. It's rare to feel like we were outcoached in a game - we may lose or play a bad game now and then, but it always feels like the team will be prepared to play OUR game, not into the opponents hands. He has always stressed that since day 1, that he wants teams to adjust to us, not the other way around. His record speaks for itself at this point. He wins, and he seems to get the maximum from talented players while making average/depth guys good dependable players as well.

If Vuic had a court date like someone else speculated earlier, then it makes sense that he might sit out tonight, especially with Bathurst not really having a fighting presence in their lineup. I really don't see Vuic as the type of guy you hold out of the lineup because he's being traded… If he's being moved it's either as a throw in to a much larger deal or it's for a 4+ round pick. According to the Herald (take note Guru) Vuic's arraignment was moved up to Dec 11 at his lawyer's request, so he sat out last night not because of his arraignment.

I wish Vuic could NOT fight occasionally, and stay in the lineup. He is actually pretty skilled for a big guy. I'd love to see him focus on a net presence type role, maybe on the PP after the trade period etc.
I like having a guy like him in the lineup should things get rough, but I don't like that he seems to fight (and get misconducts) and be virtually useless to us the rest of the game.

Between guys missing, injured or being traded. But the guys can play worse and I expect they will. Resop just can not face that many shots and the Mooseheads need to eliminate 3 stupid penalties a game and they may be able to help themselves immensely. Right now they miss finish and will be scoring ugly goals - Meier and Ehlers will be back. I will say this about Ducharme. He generally rolls out the same structure to their play no matter who is in the lineup. I have noticed they are blocking more shots but I am not sure if that is a consequence of being longer in their own end or they are teaching this now. Used to be the better defenders would never have to spend that much time back there and it helped the transition game. We will see how good a coach Dom is with this type of team. But they still have guys capable of leading a rush from the D (Nauss does it Hardie sometimes does it, can Ford do it?) so that probably no matter what the game structure does not change much.

I wish he'd not fight because he sucks at it. He's a big, strong guy but his fighting 'skill' is awful. He also seems to get misconducts every time he touches another player. I used to be a big Vuic fan. He was a presence on the ice but he wasn't dirty about it at all. Which is still true but he isn't nearly as effective or engaged as he used to be. In preseason he looked like a force, throwing big hits, carrying the puck well, getting shots off. I'm sure some of his struggles are related to his legal issues but I just don't think he's really contributing to the team at this point. Once in a while he will fight the biggest guy from the other team and maybe survive with an uneventful draw.

In the preseason, he was playing against a lot of players who were either rookies or no longer in the league. IMO Vuic should be let go. He is just taking ice time away from younger players.

Try something along the lines of the old Milt Schmidt style: Park him in front of the net with a rope tied from each hand to a tecticle. When he goes to punch he self-inflicts pain. I won't be long before he gets the idea. Where did we see that: Don Chery Story with a goalie ... damned near killed the poor bugger with his unorthodox approach.

Posted this in the wrong thread last night. Guess who the hottest team in the Q is? Good to see Resop playing well. Cavan Fitzgerald's output is quite the surprise. Leading the league in points/game by a dman....

The Wildcats Nah they don't have 8 wins in their last 10 games. Halifax's record is ineligible. You can only play Bathurst once to qualify.

I said earlier in the week that it almost wasn't fair to have Nik Ehlers play a bunch of Jr. A teams, and his five goals in two games shouldn't really be considered overly fantastic. I guess you're right... by the same token, wins against Bathurst shouldn't count.

Would've been better staying with the Moose until the WJC. Maybe the Denmark hockey people asked and he obliged...? Still, he doesn't belong playing in that tournament.
