Jérôme Bérubé @jerome_Berube · 12m12 minutes ago Moncton prospect Chad Krys of the NTDP has committed to play at Boston University. He was our #1 prospect going into the 2014 Q draft.

Amassing we keep trying to hit a home run with nothing, I think this has been the worst draft that I have seen in the 21 years I have followed the team, with nothing far too many hopefuls, we need only to look down the highway to see how it should be done.

I understand the negativity that comes out from a lot of these guys not reporting, and it really is frustrating to get excited for these players only having them choose alternate routes but I really don't mind them using a 7th rounder on a Guy like Krys even if theres a 10% chance he shows up. I'd do that again and again.
I think its more the 3rd/4th round guys that get picked that are more frustrating to me. Those are picks you can really use to fill out your top 6 FW and top 4 defenseman. Using those early picks they should be 100% confident that the player will show up. Especially lately with the lack of early picks
Looking at players picked in the 7th and 8th round from last season I don't see any guys on there that we really missed out on necessarily.

Agree with that much more balanced assessment

I agree, to me the Krys pick on it's own is fine, it's when you combine it with McInnis O'Leary Waite Grant and the long list of other US or NCAA guys that have not shown up. Plus, as you said, when you have only 1 1st round pick the last 7 years, you need to hit doubles triples and home runs with rounds 2-8. www.eliteprospects.com/draft_other2.php?year=2014&dteam=887&type=QMJHL Entry Draft 2014 draft... Rd 2-Corson hasn't looked like a guy that was worthy of trading up for in the 2nd round...so far. Rd3-Murphy has the talent to be top 6, but showed up out of shape last year, so there are questions. Rd4-McInnis...no show Rd5-Tesink-has some potential, this is a big camp for him Dupre-has not really lived up to being drafted in that spot...yet, but very big camp for him Rd6-Duquette-a throw in in a trade -Murphy...no show, headed to Harvard. RD7-Krys-no show, headed to college -Archibald has not really stood out in any way RD8-Koopman-no show headed NCAA RD9-Cormier-18 year old, big camp for him RD10-Britner-no show, unprotected www.eliteprospects.com/draft_other2.php?year=2015&dteam=887&type=QMJHL Entry Draft 2015 draft... Rd2-Cyr-looks to be a core player going forward, size is a concern RD3-Crossman-like Cyr should be a core player going forward -O'Leary-like last year, a no show -Lavoie-hopefully can develop into a top 4 d-man RD4-Aspirot-appears to have solid potential RD5-McKenna-quick and skilled, jury still out RD6-Grant-holing out for NCAA? -Wait-holing out for NCAA? RD7-Dawe-committed NCAA, no show RD9-Destefani-protecting his NCAA like Grant/Waite RD10-Petruzzelli-no show, headed NCAA? That's 12 players drafted the last 2 years in the top 10 rounds that are no shows or no longer WC property. At some point that plus having no 1st really impacts your team on the ice.

I think it's a combination of things that is frustrating for the fans. I agree with what was said above that in isolation I don't think anyone has a problem with drafting Krys. There was never really a high probability that he would ever end up here, but it's worth the risk. It's when you're adding him to the PILE of players not showing up then it becomes pretty frustrating.
Wasting a 3rd round pick on O'Leary and a 4th on McInnis when you're low on picks is just inexcusable in any scenario.
Then you combine all that with Roger Shannon's periodic quotes in the paper about how there's a "good chance" a lot of the gambles are going to pay off and you start to have an angry fan base. He should really start keeping his mouth shut about such things until a player actually shows up. Cats were "minutes away" from getting O'Leary according to him. What the heck does that even mean?

They were driving to his house with a suitcase of cash, but the NCAA guys beat them to it...by only a minute!

Fortin No idea, likely one of Janzen, Dupre or Talbot-Tassi My money is on Sébastien Dupré to be the back up. Good call! This was confirmed since he wasn't cut before the CEGEP deadline. Blade Mann-Dixon will most likely be the 3rd stringer that they can call up from Jr.A if needed.

I'm not 100% sure how it works but players have been cut after the deadline before, there might be fines involved. That being said, if I was a betting man, I'd have Dupre #2 and BMD #3 as AF. They could also opt to keep 3 guys for 4-6 weeks if they are on the fence. Edit: I just saw the article stating Rioux will be on waivers and probably play with the Commandos. That pretty much seals Dupre's fate for now.

Few quick things for you guys for those of you wanting to know how some guys did tonight..
Klebanskyj was your best d man tonight. Played solid, took the body well, scored a bit of a weak 5 hole goal but deserved it with his play.
Leishman...well. Looked outta place, played bad positionally. Missed some hits.
MacEwen was the best forward for you guys. 8 dangerous shots according to the Q site and i agree. He showed some skill, speed and toughness. Was pesky around the net. Was a real threat. Could have had a few goals tonight.
Glassl. Didnt even know he played. Was invisable.
Benji Curtis. Pain in the ass he is lol. Reminds me of Kelly Bent. was out there trying to get under ppl's skin.
Dupre played bad, allowed a couple weak ones, Velenos goal was very week on him.
Fortin played great. The one he allowed was a great saucer pass, no chance.

MacEwen was the best WC player. Klebankskyj Askew and Murphy had sold games. Leger was ok as was Fortin.
Johnson and Malatesta were invisible for vets. Glassl for an 18 year old Euro, unremarkable.
A lot of young guys looked overwhelmed. Obviously SJ had a more veteran team, but from your young players, in order to stick, you have to at least be able to compete against good Q players.
Leishman, I can't figure out what he is there for, big and slow, his past stats don't inspire anything offensively. D'arnall and Hambly on his line also looked overwhelmed. Those 3 should all be gone soon.
Cyr had a rough night, as did Corson, I find his game disappears against bigger, faster Q players. He has good hockey sense, but he's weak physically and not incredibly fast or skilled. He took a bis step back from Sunday.
Going to be some tough decisions, some of the best players in camp are 19 year olds that can help the team compete this year but might hinder the development of younger guys...
On defense, Tesink Aspirot as well as Johnston had rough nights, Dupre in nets also, had a few good saves early but then give up a couple of weak ones.

This must have been the tallest Wildcat team we are going to see all season; actually 8 players over 6ft

Not a huge surprise but Brendan Bornstein has signed on to the team.
I went to some of the practices this week and really loved what I seen in Mika Cyr. His accuracy and power on his shot is unbelievable and he shows to be a strong skater! The biggest concern is that he seems to disappear during the exhibition games. Anyone see the game last night? Any thoughts?

Mikaël Lalancette @mlalancettetva Jacob Sweeney va se rapporter à Albany (AHL) pour le moment. Les Devils veulent continuer de l'évaluer. #Wildcats
His status is still up in the air.
