With the Cats game from yesterday postponed to Sunday, it foils the original plan to start the playoffs before the home show. From the T & T: The Wildcats will have home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs, but it appears they will have to open the playoffs on the road as a trickle-down effect of last night’s game cancelled game. The original plan was that Moncton would begin the playoffs next week with games on Wednesday and Thursday at the Moncton Coliseum. The building isn’t available for hockey next week on Friday and Saturday because it’s being used for a boat show, and this is creating a scheduling nightmare for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats would be playing five games in seven days if they begin the playoffs with home outings on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s extremely unlikely they would agree to this gruelling schedule.
All indications are that Moncton will begin the playoffs next week with road games on Thursday and Friday. The Wildcats would then play the next three contests at home. Game 6 would be on the road, and Game 7 would be in Moncton. Confirmation of this is expected in the next couple of days.Neil with his usual conspiracy theories. The QMJHL has traditionally forced games to be played when both teams and the referees are in town. The league went against this thinking in cancelling Wednesday night’s game in Halifax.
Moncton now has a compact schedule with the makeup game and the Moncton Coliseum’s lack of availability next week. The league knew in advance of cancelling the game that it would likely mean the Wildcats will begin the playoffs on the road, even though they have home-ice advantage. Not to mention the very grueling awards gala. The Wildcats have three games in three days to end the regular season. It’s four events in four days when you factor in the team’s awards gala on Monday at Casino New Brunswick. The awards gala begins with an autograph session at 6 p.m., followed by trophy presentations from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.To read the full article including Darren Rumble quotes, click hereReally disappointing especially since the Cats did everything they could to try and play yesterday. 2 nights at a hotel in Halifax and 2 days worth of meals for nothing. I have faith in Rumble to get this team going even if they start on the road.

My question would be why would they start Thursday? Why can't it just be Friday/Saturday and then Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday here? Is the Coliseum not available next weekend either for a potential Game 5 on Friday?
It looks open to me. There's the Globetrotters at 2 PM Saturday, but that shouldn't be an issue as I'm pretty sure the Miracles have played 2 PM Sunday games after a Wildcats Saturday night game plenty of times.
IF the Cats advance to Round 2 it looks like they should be fine. April 10th and 11th look open. The next weekend has Speed Sport Car Show, but that's a non-issue if they're playing a 2-3-2.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It's not like they'll be starting on the road in Charlottetown or Saint John. Instead of game 1 they have an 8-10hr ride to one of Victo, Chicoutimi or Gatineau unless they are flying. And if they are starting on the road anyway, why wouldn't they just start Friday/Saturday like most series?

I'm guessing the games will actually be Friday/Saturday and Hodge was wrong. As you both pointed out, playing Thursday/Friday just doesn't make sense in this case.

It may depend on who we play ... there might be availability issues in our opponents building as well.

Last year didnt the Moncton vs Armada series start a day earlier than the other series because of some quirk in schedule in Blainville?
The Moncton games 3/4/5 were M,T, and Th (with the 6PM start Thurs so Armada could fly home after game)
It always surprises me when teams expected to be in top 8 have building conflucts on the day playoffs normally start. It looks pretty obvious the Cats expected before the season to be a bottom eight ?? If they let the home show box them out on the Fri/Sat - Irving could pay more to make sure things like that do not happen...but haha

No matter where the Cats finish, they are booked for the same weekend every year. That's why Irving and the City are working on building a new arena/entertainment complex downtown.

Yup ... the boat show probably has a contract going back 20 years ... same as speed sport. Longer than the Wildcats have been around.

I think we'll continue to see these problems for years to come as long as Brian Gallant is at the helm and Irving does not plan on putting any of his own money towards the builindg.

Does their pilot have a curfew? The reason for the early start time was because there was a show booked at the coliseum for the weekend and they needed to set up by Friday AM.

I'm just guessing but maybe they were flying commercial and not charter? I'm not guessing. I'm telling you the reason the game started earlier was not due to flying. With your logic, what would they have done if the game went into overtime? Forfeit the game or lose out on thousands of dollars in flights?

Why do fans whine about this every year? The Cats don't own the arena they use it. When they are not playing the facility still needs events to ensure it makes money. The shows and events at the coliseum are booked months or years in advance and are not contingent on a junior hockey team making the playoffs. It happens every year they always find a solution and the playoffs go on...this year will be no different.
