I have watched all season as Svetchnikov has aclimated to this league. For me right now he is peaking at the right time to help his team. Always physical (definite handful) and now taking fewer undisciplined penalties from what I see...earlier in year I think that held him back.
ISS has him at 16 and that is the highest I recall Evgeni being on rankings. They have Meier at 15 (Halifax) but Svetchnikov is on the upswing. Last month consensus of all major scouting firms had him at 20 --- I think he may be able to go higher. Just think of the way his team was for the early part of the season. And the coaching issues...
I really enjoy watching him but would love some comments from those of you who have seen him up close a little more than me. Especially when it comes to how he has adapted his game.

Watched Svechnikov all year as a season ticket holder and he has gotten better as the year went on. He came here injured if I remember correctly (something with his ankle), and I don't think the dressing room was a very nice place to be here before we weeded out the cancerous tumours at the trade period. Since then he has been dynamite. Very strong on the puck, physical and dominating in the corners. His shot is what amazes me the most, when he fires a wrist shot you can't even see the puck. He was a bit undisciplined earlier in the year but that could have been a learning curve with the smaller ice and the game probably being called a bit different than he's used to. I think he should shoot the puck more, he tends to try to be the set up man a bit much but that's a small compromise for a guy who has that much skill.

He really elevated his game after the trade period when he came back from an injury, but these last few games he has taken his game to another level. His drive and passion is off the charts. He constantly wants the puck on his stick and he'll do whatever it takes to get it. He's even been killing penalties and playing center lately. If the Eagles get past Quebec, Evgeny will be a big reason why, so I could see him being even higher in May.

His skillset is there and he steadily adapted to the NA game but I feel his recent clutch performances will be what will really draw some eyes.
This guy is the real deal and plays hard in the tough games.
He should be picked ahead of Meier in my opinion.

You are right, he was coming off a ankle surgery. And was even skating alone during the days to try and get game ready.

I'd obviously love to have a Timo Meier on the team but as of right now I would take Svechnikov over him in a heart beat.
That may be a slight bias but that's the choice I would make.

I agree with this. In February Meier finally won me over. I was not sure he could be that elite until I saw wha he did at the Prospects Game and then the next three nights in Quebec on road games - he played 4 days in a row. He takes games over. But I am with you Svetchnikov is taking his game to a level that few Russian players ever do in the CHL and fighting through those other issues/ translating the NA game, the weak coach and dressing room issues, and the injury....

I think Svechnikov is the best European that we have ever had here. He is big and strong, good in the corners wicked shot and can play with an edge when necessary. This kid is the real deal and he should dominate this league next year. Would nor surprise me to see him go in the top 10.

I have watched both these players and really think Svetchnikov has more up side. Does more things.
I wonder what his second year in the Q will be like. I do not buy Meier at 9 yet ..but he is making a case. Svetchnikov may be as high as 13 IMO this draft depending who picks. These ae very talented players. Will be interesting to see the May rankings of ISS, CSS, McKeens, and Button again.

Svechnikov ranked at number 17 in the final 2015 draft rankings. Clarify that is the Central Scouting list done by collaboration of NHL scouts. 17 (NA skater) means really 19 or 20 since they put the international skaters on another list. I have my own list I work on with some friends scattered across North America. We will get together to do our May list in a couple of weeks. But I already know Svetchnikov is between 14-17 on our list. When we get our list done I will post it here. But for those of you who want a good array of scouting info there are about 6 sources you need to follow and they all have their niche.... Craig's (Button) list is good but I put more stock in ISS and McKeens Hockey. You have to give less credibility to Damien Cox (SN) as most of us are not sure how that gets compiled. I have noticed Dennis Yan of Shawinigan is 31 on the new CSS list (NA Skaters) A month ago on some consensus rankings he was hardly top 50 - of course there are about 10 Euro skaters better that would lower him on lists that include both together - but this is a very volatile ranking year after the top 10.
