Based on the ticket sales so far for the games, it doesn't appear there are many playoff Moosehead fans out there. Is Moncton a rival to the players? Maybe so, but it is very clear the fans don't give a shit! Why is it you can pack the Scotiabank Centre for crappy regular season games, but can't pack Scotiabank Centre for playoff games vs. the "rival" of the team we cheer for? What a joke! you've just demonstrated a reason why moncton can

Besides Quebec, Moncton is probably the biggest rival over the past few years.

Besides Quebec, Moncton is probably the biggest rival over the past few years. But for us it would be SJ. Halifax has always been a rival for us since day 1 that brings in better than the average crowds ... but SJ is likely our #1 rival. Year to year it always depends on how competitive each team is on what kind of crowd they draw. PEI has also been a big rival. Bathurst use to be a rival but they have not been competitive enough to generate fan interest anymore. CB has never really been a real rival for us ... while we likely have a bigger rivalry with Quebec than we do CB. For whatever reason ... everybody in other Maritime rinks, love to hate Moncton, while they seem to hate other Maritime teams less.

Maybe for CB fans. Bathurst has a long history with Halifax and probably hate them as much as Moncton. I guarantee you that no SJ fan, nor any PEI fan, is hoping for Moncton to win this current series. They hate Halifax less. Rivalries evolve and are more about recent history ... but also about proximity.

Whereas the distance between SJ and Halifax, PEI and Bathurst, etc. is nearly double. We have the added hatred of being the closest geographic rival to four teams (Bathurst, Charlottetown, SJ, and Halifax) ...

Geography plays a part for sure.... but for us it all stems back to the year one playoff series..... that is where the rivalry truly began... and then the fact your team has had so much regular season and playoff success in comparison over the years I don't hate Halifax at all.... but I do hate Moncton. Hate being a relative term... speaking only in terms of as hockey teams...

Before CHA and SJ Halifax was top of the hated list I believe. Expansion and other teams winning changed that.

I think the "rival" is whoever you have heated playoff series with. In this league that changes every few years. You can make a case we have a rivalry with Baie Comeau though we rarely play them everyone is up for those games. Teams like Gatineau and Quebec really like to win at Halifax. Other Q teams get up for those games. Since we now have playoffs that can be any team in the league any round not sorted by division lasting rivalries are more dependent on who you play and the players you hate or like to hate playing.
But maybe Halifax' main rival is Q league officials. We see them the most. And they are often discussed by Moose fans on these boards more than any one team.
