They wanted to draw the Moosehead players into something which may cause suspensions so they would be even more depleted by Sunday. The unnecessary hit on the call up player started it. Come on LOL That's a reach if I've ever seen one... Bottom line is if Vuic and Bent weren't on the ice in the final minute , none of us would be discussing this right now. Bottom line is Maletesta doesn't need to be throwing hits like that in the final minute. If you guys just kill the clock and maintain possession, nothing probably happens. If it does because of something Vuic/Bent do, then it does and it's their fault. All I am saying is this last minute chippiness was practically a direct result of that hit. You are blaming us for having a guy on the ice who would stick up for the rookie. Instead we should not have those guys playing and not react to something you guys do. Again, its been a chippy series at times, Bent in particular was no doubt agitating as he does all the time... I don't really care about what happened, I am not complaining. I only posted because some people were acting like the Moose were the guys starting all that because we were losing, when it was actually Maletesta's hit that spurred most of it.

There was a clean hit finished on Zilbert just moments before Malatestas hit that was also hard. I had no issue with it, but if guys are out there finishing their hits then the other team is going to do the same regardless of who is on the ice. What an overreaction this is, just also rewatched Bower going "crosscheck happy" which was nothing more than a 2 lovetaps in the corner that you see dozens of per game. Bent was flying out there throwing his elbow out looking for a big hit as well but he missed so nothing came of it. He also threw a cheapshot jab at Bowers head in the corner with about 30 seconds left. But yeah..moose were just playing the clock out.
Its playoff hockey in a long series between rivals, nothing out of the unusual here.

If youre going to bitch and complain about who started it please get your facts straight. The Malatesta hit was entirely clean and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Whether hes a callup or not, hes playing in a Q playoff game so time to put on his big boy pants. Vuic was out there looking for a fight and everyone knew it. He threw Malatesta into a headlock and our 2 guys stepped in because frankly, Vuics a f***ing beast. As for the final scrum, Tibbo did exactly what he should have with just over 10 seconds remaining by holding the puck against the boards. Then 3 of the 4 Halifax skaters skated up to hold him there which there is no problem with but when i believe it was Moynihan starts throwing multiple crosschecks at his neck/head thats when Bower and Klebanskyj stepped in. I was sitting 3 rows back of this scrum so im pretty sure id know what was going on. What happened after may have been Monctons fault but if youre going to bitch and complain and try to find an excuse or pin something on who started what please get your facts straight Im not bitching and complaining. I'm explaining what happened. If you think Maletesta throwing a big hit on a rookie callup in the last minute of a 7-3 game would not draw a reaction from the losing team...you havent watched much hockey. So the clock ticks down and the moose are content to hold the puck/play along the boards, but your guy decides to go crosscheck happy and draws an appropriate reaction...and its our fault again? Is it THAT hard to just say your players fanned the fire in the last minute while up by 4? You are getting sad. Its playoff hockey ... play to the buzzer. You know damn well that the Moose were out to inflict a little pain in those final 3 minutes ... but it isn't ok for our guy to deliver a hit on a guy playing the puck. If your guy is such a brittle rookie he should be made to wear a different coloured jersey ... or a blinking light on his helmet ... so nobody hits him. Maybe one of the older players could hold his hand. Malatesta is also a rookie. Your team was trying to goon it up a little to send a message for game 6 ... a ploy that every team does in the playoffs after a lopsided game. That isn't classless ... that is just hockey. But when you do that then you have to expect some coming back your way. Whining about a clean hit on a call-up is the only classless thing that happened.

If Maletesta is going to throw hits like that late - especially on a callup player getting one of his few shifts per game - then expect a reaction. That is all I am saying with regards to that scrum. Bent is always willing to mix it up, everyone knows this. But on the final play, two guys had the puck on the boards and Bent stood there basically waiting for the puck to pop free. Bower could have just stood there and let the clock go down, but he skated up to Bent and crosscheck/shoved him out of the way, and then started giving shots to Tailifer who was still tied up with his man. Bent turned and saw this and gave him a shove and Bower crosschecked him too, and the scrum started. I am not indicating the Moose were angels or not willing to stir it up too - usually the teams losing and frustrated are more than willing to mix it up late - but on those particular scrums, Moncton really brought them on. And who cares, they were nothing events ultimately... just take some blame for what happened, that's all.

As much as I like to agree with crazyjoe here the reason it ended the way it did was because teams like to send a message before the next game...my point several posts up is that Malatesta started it. He did start it.

I'm just telling your guys why Vuic reacted the way he did, not whining about it. I would expect your players to react the same way if Bent hammered MacEwen (random examples) with a big hit in the last minute of game 1 with the score of 7-3 Mooseheads. I certainly wouldn't blame your player if they ran up to go after Bent like you guys are doing.

Fun atmosphere at Atkin Centre, big crowd who were into this game. Halifax became unglued third period and started to look quite silly running at our guys, glad Ehlers was a non-factor. Momentum taken right out of Mooseheads which in my view isn't recoverable. Our bus broke down just outside Moncton transmission issue, we pulled into Bigstop to wait for a replacement from Sussex which was a half an hour arriving, there were a few tense minutes in which we didn't know if we were gonna get there. But all worked out. hats off to Irving for arrangements and Booster club volunteers for their organization on short notice. WELL DONE!!!!!! The two scrums in the last minute were entirely Moncton's doing. Malatesta throwing a giant hit at our rookie callup in a 7-3 game in the last minute? And the final scrum, the moose guys were basically standing there waiting for the clock to run off, and the moncton guy was going off with crosschecks on our guy by the boards causing the moose guys to pile in to stop him. Was he supposed to ask for his credentials before hitting him? Sorry, I can't hit you, you're just a rookie callup. I wish I could since I have you lined up, so I'll just turn around and let you hit me.

I have said all I can. I am not complaining as much as I am just saying why Vuic got involved there. You guys KNOW that throwing a big hit (on anyone, let alone a callup) when winning big late in a game against a frustrated team, will get a reaction. If you refuse to acknowledge this tends to happen, then this will never end.

Will Bower was keeping Kelly away from the puck, also to run out the clock. Bower may have roughed up Kelly more than Kelly was comfortable with, and Kelly didn't see any way to run away and hide ... so C. Moynihan piled in and then Matt Klebanskyj grabbed onto C. Moynihan. If Kelly would just have the balls to drop the gloves with 17 YO Bower, then big Moynihan doesn't have to come into his rescue, and he'd be playing tomorrow. Its all on Kelly Bent. With less than 10 seconds on the clock, there was nothing to be gained in getting the puck out and he should have just backed off and let the clock tick down.

If hes playing in a Q playoff game then he qualifies as a Qmjhl hockey player and if he cant handle a hit then dont put him on in the final minutes. Both teams were throwing their bodies around so theres no excuse to being on the recieving end of a clean hit in a contact league.

'They wanted to draw the Moosehead players into something which may cause suspensions so they would be even more depleted by Sunday. The unnecessary hit on the call up player started it.'
If that's the case, you are making the Moncton coaching staff sound like geniuses. We are not that crafty and we do not have the disposable players to set up such a situation.
I like the Mooseheads aggressive style of play. I'd have Bent on my team in a heartbeat. To think that because Moynihan wouldn't stop throwing when the referee clearly indicated it was over is part of some Moncton conspiracy to deplete the Halifax roster is truly a head scratcher. Moynihan has to own his self control issues and if players are expected to recognize a player's rookie status before they hit them cleanly, then surely Moynihan understood what kind of difficulties he could cause his coach and teammates when he threw those last few punches.
