Here's the problem with this though, go to PEI's board and watch the Video's they have posted. By the sounds of it from their GM it sounds very much that the number 5 pick is in play. So teams can get that pick a little easier then it would take to get the Mooses 7th pick. I truly don't see Halifax moving back in the first round. If anything they might move up if they can for the right price. Like you keep saying the protective list has to be managed too. So why not trade 2 or 3 picks to jump up or get a 2nd pick in the first. Ya I clearly stated that in response at the beginning, moose could trade up, kicking tires. Same as I mentioned before about CB being ahead in any Bower scenario, if they chose to. How can you say the 5th is easier to get then the 7th. Is it some unlucky number that HAS to be cheaper then a later one. No one knows how many teams want to trade up or what they all want in return. Not all GMs are giving their strategy on a msg board, again kicking tires. Moose could already have the 3rd pick or they may prefer to spend on a better player next year. I guess you missed most of that and the example being in bold. A team like PEI has different needs then the Moose, so its not even the same. I know you said for example in bold I can read. I just said the 5 pick is 100% in play. All I'm saying is Halifax's pick isn't actually in play as a team needs to buy it. Halifax has to start filling the holes they have now. A 7th pick helps that more then say dropping down two spots like your "example" suggests. They have to hit a home run with this pick because of past fails. Last year they swung and missed in the 3rd round on 2 guys. Those were the teams 2nd and 3rd picks. They can still be in play but I from what I've heard we shouldn't be holding are breath on those 2. Then go back and look at the 2013 draft. We have zero players on our roster that was picked by the Moose themselves. PEI does have different needs your right but it not being the same is a very weak argument. They have a higher pick and they are looking to go for it. So they want players now not picks so they can give that pick and not worry about targeting a player to still be in the draft a few picks later. That puts halifax in a bad place if someone trades for that pick and takes Halifax's targeted player. Now in saying this the player PEI seems to be looking for might just be Cody Donaghey. Not saying this will happen but there seems to be a fit. Now if that were to happen Halifax could have the 5th and 7th pick. That seems more appealing to me. You have also said that next year draft is the draft to look at. This I agree with you on but I don't think this means Halifax is looking to tank. They will still have a team that can compete every night. The first line is still going to very dangerous with Meier, Moynihan, and Fortier. Plus whatever the new Euro might bring to the second line with guys like Falkenham, Shewfelt, Connor, Crossley, and Watt. Then we have Brassard back in net. Am I saying this team will be a top team? God No! But a team that could maybe upset again in the 1st round, and only be around 10 to 15th place. The big thing is how much stronger this division will be next year. Really we will all know more come this time 2 weeks from now.

I think you meant the 2012 draft.

Yes, the 2012 draft was exceptionally bad for us. Goes to show how much a dud draft year can harm your team... If we had a better group of 1996 born players, it could really help spark the rebuild.

That was the draft I was talking about and meant. The one where they picked Echiel. I was thinking the season we won the cup. The draft for that season and put the season together.

Every year they are trying to hit one on every pick, did people stop buying tickets because Marino did not show or Eichel? NO. In fact 7th likely has worse odds to succeed then any pick from 8 to 16 and the normal return from trading down IF it were to happen. Do you really think there will be that much difference between 7 and say 11 pick this year. If you said 3 and later I would think so otherwise it will come down to scouting like every year other than the elite few. A fit for Donaghey is better at Xmas unless someone is going to overpay, especially in division, for a injured player. Tanking is not on the Moose mind, I never mentioned them either just the 2016 being a tank year, which teams do by dumping to get better. No one is sure of the 20s next year.

The type of player that PEI is looking for is Donaghey type of player. I said for the 5th pick you are not getting a better offer then that at Xmas. He's cleared to play just Toronto has put their foot down and said he is not playing anymore this year. And how in the hell can you even say that 8 to 16 have better odds of succeeding in this league? Go back and look at the past few drafts and tell me there's no difference from players picked at 7 to 11. You might be taken that statement back pretty quickly. As for buying PEI's pick they are open to selling and your reply doesn't that go for every trade and teams trying to trade. Not every team has what every other team is looking for. But the team that gets it usually has what the other team wants. In this case PEI is openly taking offers on the pick. Nothing been said Halifax is taking offers on their pick.

Your the one on crack thinking that you get as much at the draft as Xmas, you make it sound like that is the offer. Xmas will also be a 2016 pick. You also don't trade down for a lower pick straight up, so wake up, more picks equal better odds of getting it right, especially when a draft is so equal after the 3rd pick or so, these are 15yr olds and HUMAN observations. The 7 to 11 pick of the past is based on who is picking not so much the number, as everyone's list is not the same. So go back all you want that is useless. If a team had the 7 or 8 or 9th pick they could end up with the same player anyway, why do you think teams drop down. That is what you are ignoring. Its based on the situation not a statement on a msg board. So if the right opportunity arises teams trade up or down, its going to happen, it does every year. Will it be the Moose, most likely not. Its not set in stone or going to happen because you or I say it will or wont. The whole bases of this is that this year is one where a home run is equal to a double. A Fortier now is not going to turn this franchise around but if you have the potential to trade 1 for 2 it certainly could have more impact. Same principle if you could trade 2 Fortiers for a Bower.

New draft strategy by the Moose, they want the fans to make the draft pick. Tell them on facebook! No non moose fans screwing up this pick. www.facebook.com/HFXMooseheads

Well if they don't trade Brassard and also have Resop then picking a goalie wouldn't be a great idea obviously. I think we need a forward more desperately and maybe we can hold off till next year with our 2 first rounders and maybe even a third first rounder, if we make some deals at Christmas.

I would say best player with a lean towards forward if the two options are close. Rather trade for more assets if no forward but unlikely. If you believe what GMs say in public, which you should read between lines, Young said lots of good forwards in top 10 and that is too high to take goalie. He has been fishing 2,3 and 4th pick so it suggests he wants to get a steal/deal somewhere in the draft. He did say that he made generous offer to Bathurst. Take it for what its worth. In some cases fishing for other picks are fishing for information. Like playing poker, reading the other GMs could see who they will pass on, provide info on trade offers and shows what pick and/or player they want as well. I would expect Russell has done the same.

This was posted on the Sea Dogs board.
John Moore @rinkrant Trusted source says Hockey Canada is reconsidering Joseph Veleno receiving "exceptional status."
If this happens and Saint John selects him, any way the Moose move up to get Bowers?

If this happens and Saint John selects him, any way the Moose move up to get Bowers? For the Moose this is bad news with the pick they have this year and extra picks next year. Paying to get Bowers now likely means cost of 2016 pick(s). Dont think that pays off this time.
