The money is a big thing here. They lost almost $200,000 in the first round on just ticket sales because the games were at the forum. The on average of 3500 less seats cost them that. So to make that up they needed at lest 2 more home playoff games. People forget this is a business and Bob is here to make money too. And for anyone who thinks $400,000 isn't a lot of money you can give me it and I'll never ever post here again. As for me being wrong, how am I wrong? Yes he was called up but never played a game. I said if anyone thinks he was going to play and help them win is a stretch. Why not call him up and have him practice with the team and see what it like. That makes sense also shows him what he needs to work on and what he could experience next year. And as for the run part, that was vague I'll admit that. I meant a run just a few rounds, not a run for the title. At the trade deadline he would be a gambler to project getting that extra money. He would also be trading future revenue he would get from a better team when using the picks instead of keeping Ehlers. I dont think the money was the issue. In fact if he knew he was going to play at the forum better to tank, not make the playoffs and have a longer run in the full arena in the future. I think he simply went with Ehlers wishes/no trade.

There I saw it again...have you seen Donaghey play? Numerous times i have seen his name on these posts as the D saviour for the Moose. You will not get a 1st rounder if trading him at christmas unless there is a huge improvement in his game from where it was before the injury. He was maybe #4 before his injury on that team and probably would have moved to 5th when they brought in Murphy.there are some young d men on moose now that would fetch more.

if he traded both Ehlers and Fucale it would have hurt the attendance for the rest of the season. Keeping a big name who plays the way Ehlers does puts bums in the seats. Halifax would have jeopardized their huge walk up crowd for the remainder.

I don't believe anybody has called Donaghey the savior- I see him as replacing Hardie on next year's roster and hopefully an upgrade on Hardie who I have really liked here for the past 4 seasons.

Donaghey has to go at the draft to get the highest return. With his injury his value is lowered for the time being. Once he is back and assuming he plays well then the offers for him will be better than they will in June 2015.

I've made this point before: But we DO need defensemen at the draft. Especially right-handed ones.
Trading Donaghey away at the draft isn't going to happen. Currently we have 6 Left shooters returning next year... It's a big problem, and Donaghey is a right shot.
On top of that, The rookies did well but, I'm not sure if this is anything more than an average defense going forward.
Obviously the first priority at the draft should be scoring, our depth up front stinks; but if the best player available at #7 is a d-man, I will be happy to take him. Especially if he shoots right.

This money is far from the driving reason behind what the team did in January. They knew since last year when the curling was announced they would be kicked out of the rink for the first round. If money was the main motivator they would have been buyers and added players to make sure there was a second round of home dates. By subtracting they put the odds of no Scotiabank playoff games higher. They were the 12th seed and even sold their playoff ticket packages where STH only paid for 3 games down and the rest is charged on the credit with 2015-16 renewal. That was calculated. They figured 3 home games was all they would have. (Their expenses at the forum were probably a little less too) Junior hockey in cyclical. 9 home playoff games in 2012, 9 home playoff games in 2013, 7 home playoff games in 2014 and this should have been the low and it was albeit 6 home playoffs games. They probably expected 3 all at the Forum. The 3 extra home dates was gravy for this team.

I agree 100% with your thinking ... Bets player available for Halifax makes the most sense.

Halifax' draft with the added picks would have been like: 2015 Halifax : 1-1-2-2-2-3-3-3-4-6-6-7--8-9-10-11-12-13-14 (7th, 16th, 25th, 30th, 34th, 43th, 47th, 52th, ...) 2016 Halifax : 1-1-1-2-2-3-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14 Dear god, that would have been obscene lol. If what was reported is accurate (coming from Lalancette we'll assume it is), I'm going to assume Cam would have made that deal, but went to Ehlers and he wanted to stay. At that point, you thank the Armada for the offer, and hang up. Simple as that. Kind of disappointing, but at the same time, it's part of the game. You can't go around burning top end euros, because the first time you do, it will be your last. Moose have built up a good rep. over the years....not worth ruining it for one trade.

If every seller could guarantee themselves $400K by not selling no players would ever get traded. It's a fluke happening that isn't something you can really plan around. 1 unlucky bounce and you're on here whining about how much was lost from an entire Forum series, not listing the $400K as if Halifax was counting on that money after not making any deal with Ehlers. They didn't trade Ehlers because of the deal made to bring him in. Any financial windfall is in spite of that, not because of it. If they could have traded him and got 3 1sts rounders but got swept and make no money they probably do that if they had the option at the time. But dont let me keep you from talking like the $400K in hindsight was the plan all along. It might be very relevant to you but for a team like Halifax after 3 straight playoff runs, it's really just a drop in the bucket. Like you or I working an 8 hour OT shift...it's nice to have, but you're not going to ruin your future for the slightly extra bump on your next pay. Ok I'll give you a bit on this. Hindsight your right it $400,000 because it was 3 games. I do think you can plan to push for the 2nd round. With out Ehlers they know they get maybe only 2 games at the forum, but with Ehlers this team always has a chance. And the moose in the playoffs average 7500 fans at the SBC. So they would have been looking and aiming for at lest 2 more home games. They make roughly $132,000 a game at those number with tickets alone. So instead of the 400k they mighted have only made 250 to 270 mark. Don't let it foil anyone here, they lost a shit load of money those 3 games at the forum. They didn't get any money for the Box's. Nothing near the norm Beer money. And the food wouldn't be there either. If they truly didn't want to make a little run in the playoffs they would have also flipped Brassard. No need to keep him really. So they can keep a team they think give them a chance to push them to that round. Also if they didn't really care about the playoffs they sit Meier, Ehlers, Gadoruy that make up game against Moncton and let what happens, happen. Then maybe play BB instead of hoping to play Shawingian. Yes anything can happen in the playoffs but if people didn't think this team tried and hoped for this out come, they should look at things a little harder.
