Not including yesterday, when was the last time you watched a Wildcats game? Saturday, and you? Do you watch with both eyes open or? The fact that you think that Sweeney/Johnston are a regular D-pair and that Holwell has struggled tells me you probably haven't paid attention to whats going in since January. Holwell at the start of the year much like Malatesta, was a bit of a disappointment but both really picked it up in the second half.

In the Halifax series they switched it up to Tassi-Sweeney, Johnston on the 2nd pair and the defense played worse.

Holwell made some terrific progress in the playoffs. He had one play that I groaned about last night and that was probably the first time in 16 playoff game that I did so. Can't say that for any of the other defenseman so impressive for him.
If he has a good offseason I think he could be a real solid #4 next year and if he continues to progress hopefully a top pairing guy at 19/20 or a #3 at worst.

i agree with arnold...i saw 90% of wildcats games this year and i would say for a 17 yr old Holwell played very well...in fact i think with the added pressure he did progress during the year and into the playoffs...i look forward to big things from him next year along with Malatesta..i think for OA it will be Johnston, beaton and sweeney...if sweeeney goes then Johnson

For OA I would keep Johnson, Beaton and Johnston , Sweeney likely won't be back, but we can only hope.

Beaton, Johnston and Sweeney all up in the air IMO. Sweeney might get drafted and play pro. Beaton might be more suited in Jr.A, Johnston it depends on Sweeney situation.

There is no way Garret Johnston is ahead of Stephen Johnson on the depth chart for 20's.

Agreed Holwell looked alot more confident in these playoffs, more so starting in the Halifax series. When he started rushing the puck and becoming engaged offensively, he was much more effective. To say Holwell looked bad overall, like another person here has, is a blanket statement and totally inaccurate. Only someone strictly looking at a stats sheet would come to that conclusion. The fact that he looked better against stronger playoff competition can only be viewed as a positive.

I think against Quebec they should have put Sweeney and Johnston together to play against the Etchegary line, Tassi looked completely overmatched.

His 2 year draft window is up. Only way he does not return is if he gets pro tryout and assigned to AHL team. Otherwise I'm sure we will see him coughing up the puck plenty again next season. Mind you Melindy got signed by pro team so there is sure hope for Sweeney cause he is better than Melindy was. As for rest of the defence. I thought Klebanskyh/Malatesta were a good fit once Malatesta found his game in second half of season, just check they're plus minus. Holwell will be even better next year for sure he turned his game way up in the playoffs. Johnston I think his big issue some nights is his own confidence. Cause when he plays well he is very capable and when he's off he's way off

The fact that he looked better against stronger playoff competition can only be viewed as a positive. Maybe he looked better than others who struggled badly like Tassi, but Holwell played mostly against bottom lines in the last 2 series. I don't see where he made a big impact offensively, he tried to join the play a few times, that's about it. You can say he didn't suck, but to me he isn't a guy that looks like a future core player, more of a depth guy.

Cause when he plays well he is very capable and when he's off he's way off Sweeney can definitely be drafted. There have been a few players drafted after their 19 year old season, recent example is Walcott from BBA. Murphy of Quebec is the same age, he is on the CSR list. If he isn't drafted then he becomes a FA.
