Just wondering if the Eagles would be able to garner any interest in their Euro picks (or are you allowed to even trade them now?)? thanks!

Can't trade them or else we'd have already done so.

both Svechnekov and Lavarev are eligible to be traded but not likely that will happen and the Euro picks this year are not able to be traded.

well that sucks; why did they stop that practice? Small markets whining about big markets moving up for their big named players, I assume. That along with the removing of goaltenders really hurts the entire CHL as a whole. They'll have you believe developing the 98th and 99th ranked Canadians is more important then our top guys being able to compete against some of the best from Europe. Pure bullshit if you ask me. Who exactly is hurting from Veleno being in the Q? Who didn't develop because Pavelec was here for 2 years? Who benefits from Bathurst taking a player at #1 they could have acquired at 19 and get their player plus a 2nd round midget pick from a Halifax? Better players in the league benefits everyone. Funny thing is with all the bitching about a team like Quebec always spending big money on NCAA threats, Americans and Russians, it was won them exactly ZERO QMJHL Championships. Very frustrating in my opinion.

Very frustrating in my opinion. I found a lot of the changes to the Euro rules were knee-jerk reactions by the CHL, or should I say the OHL. Some people in Toronto notice that many of the good young goalies were coming from EUrope so the CHL decided within a couple of weeks to stop drafting Euro goalies. Same for the trading of Euro picks and players, which was changed because of some OHL teams and was implemented a couple of days before the Euro draft. At least this year, they rectified that Euro players can be traded before the Euro draft instead of having to wait until after.

Yeah so we can't even, assuming Svechnikov goes 1st round, draft someone at #16 and wait and see what happens with Svechnikov because we If we ended up with all 3 we'd have to trade Svechnikov or Lazarev or release the new guy for no return because newly drafted Euros can't be traded for 12 months.

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that in a case where you end up with 3 imports (like Svechnikov being drafted then sent down), you would be allowed to trade the new Euro. If anyone has the rule somewhere, I'd love to see it.

You can either release him (he will go on waivers and can be picked up by another team like Nikita Li in SJ last year) or trade one of the ones that has been there for at least a year.

" There was a lot of improvisation on the part of the league with this new rule, said Roy during a press conference. At the beginning, it they told me that we did not need to burn a contract each time we dressed a different euro in a game , and then we were forced to burn one every time. "When I learned in Drummondville ( January 28 ) , at a meeting of the hockey committee , I could play with three Europeans , I thought:"Why didn't I know?" Yet at the beginning of the year, I called Gilles Courteau every week for him to explain the rules. THe Chl Darft is after the NHL draft.

Grigorenko was returned after the end of the trading period so none could be traded. Rules changed quite a bit since then.

Cuz the following year he had Sorensen, Herzog and Grigorenko.

THe Chl Darft is after the NHL draft. If Svechnikov goes in the first do we get to use our selection in the import draft? Yes, but we won't. Because if that player shows up, there's a better chance of us releasing him and biting us in the ass then there is of Svechnikov making the NHL. Only way we use our pick is if Lazarev does not return. Zero indication of that so far. Good chance we acquire 1 more top 6 forward this past week if that was even a possibility.

According to M-A Dumont, a team can only have two imports on the roster at same time and that the Eagles would have to either trade or release an import before being permitted to make a selection in the Euro draft.
