Martin Karsums was a 2nd round pick in the Euro draft if I remember correctly. The Cats had traded for a pick (they could do that then) and he was picked in the middle of the 1st round (34th). Zhakarov was picked earlier (22nd).

Zhakarov was picked earlier (22nd). I knew he was their second pick that year... I just was not sure what round it was. Thanks. He's my all time favorite Wildcat. Whenever he was on the ice... something interesting seemed to happen.

No longer allowed ... can't draft goalies. Hockey Canada didn't like CHL teams developing goaltenders for other countries. All the while, Canada was struggling to develop strong goaltenders, unlike they did in the past.

Heard they were considering Wiederer but thought it would be with the second pick. A 19 year old forward. Likely too late a pick to get a really high quality 17 year old European.
