Heard they were considering Wiederer but thought it would be with the second pick. A 19 year old forward. Likely too late a pick to get a really high quality 17 year old European. It's possible. Check out all the picks "pass" for round 2. I would suspect if they had anything lined up with a high quality 17 y/o, they would have drafted him now ... Wiederer does not look at first glance to be so great as to risk someone else snagging your top younger guy. I would say whoever they were looking at got picked by someone else before their turn came up.

I would think they might take more of a project 17 year old with the second pick. That'd be the smart move , imo. Have an impact older guy and a younger one that would return next season for sure. That way you're not needing to hit on two picks like we are this year.

His stats are almost outrageous in some of these german u20 and u18 leagues. 121 pts in 22 games (69 goals) 76 pts in 17 games (36 goals) but in DEL last season which is German Pro he only registered 2 pts but that league is filled with men/ex NHL/AHL players.

Well at first glance his stats don't look incredible , but then again he's playing in their pro league against men. Look a bit further back when playing in junior and he had a couple of 120+ point seasons. He may not be their fist choice but you always have to go into these drafts with plan Bs. I think he'll be an impact guy for us but I could be wrong. Look how underwhelming Jaskin's stats were in the European pro leagues and look at what he did here in Moncton...

Wildcats 2nd Import pick: Maximilian Glassl www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=92641"Glassl is a defenseman who seems to have all the tools, but hasn’t found the toolbox. A nice 6’3” and 200 pounds, he can move well in all directions and often displays great lateral movement, also being ample with the puck. His decisions can come a little late, but there’s much about his package that have scouts thinking he’ll be a player once he finally ‘gets it’. Having played two seasons in Finland during his junior eligibility, Glassl is used to competing internationally and had five points in 35 MHL games, having worked primarily on his defensive game."

Neither guy looks like a high end player, but drafting late with both picks it was a longshot anyways.

First Germans selected by the organization in 20 years... I suppose it's long enough to prevent the kids from feeling too intimidated. I wonder if they have any idea the size of the shoes they have to fill.

Take notice that it takes 2 Germans now to fill those shoes.
