Great news - congrats to City Council for the can-do attitude. Can't wait for the details to emerge in coming days/weeks re design and timeline for construction. Timeline I am hearing is fall of 2018 for opening - can anyone confirm? September 2018 is what was given as a "grand opening" in the presentation last night but the facility would potentially be ready in the spring.

Engineering will take the better part of a year. Once they break ground it should be 18 months ... or a little more. Sent from my SM-G925W8 using proboards They have the plans already, why would that take a year? The site is already cleared. A lot of the planning surely had to be done before different levels of government would get involved. They have concept plans now ... thats it.

Timeline I am hearing is fall of 2018 for opening - can anyone confirm? 3+ years to build? Wasn't the new arena in Quebec(much bigger) built in like half that time? Quebec City broke ground the beginning of September, 2012 and the keys were handed over last month

I like the fact that they can fit around 10,000 people. No sense having it fit 6,000.

I like that there are pretty ladies table dancing in the eating area. Is Angie's leasing some space, and if so, how do I get season tickets?

I really like that there's no upper bowl and it's just a large lower bowl. There will be seats fairly high up for those who enjoy that, but you won't really have anyone in the "nosebleeds" like in Halifax.
It's going to be nice going from one of the worst facilities in the Maritimes to the best!

Dunno if fans will like those Islander coloured seats! looks nice, is it normal for a 10K building to be one bowl? Unsure if I've seen that before

I can't believe there won't be any parking with it. That was one of the joys of heading up from sj was not worrying about where to park. Shame they couldn't keep some of the land they plan to sell off and have a parking lot instead.

Beautiful looking facility, but with no parking, not very attractive walking 10 or 15 minutes to the rink and then the same after the game, especialy in minus 20 or 25, mostly everyone I have spoken with say when the new rink opens that's when there season tickets end, they will just pick and chose there games.

Can you guys fill me in on why the Coliseum needs to be replaced? Yes , I could research very simply by using Google but why bother when you guys are here? I took in one whole game at the Colisium and I noticed the location sucked and the atmosphere. I am definitely missing something. I take it you guys need something with more capacity? Coliseum was built in the early 70s - needs to either undergo major renos or be replaced. Main complaints are lack of modern ventilation and cooling which makes for crappy ice in spring and fall, as well as unbearable heat for spectators, odd design with ceiling too low for many major acts, and frequent inavailability due to trade show use as part of Agrena complex. Much appreciated.

Roughly 1600 spots within 5 minutes Most cars have at least 2 spectators in them. That is 3200 fans with in a 5 minute walk. It takes me 5 minutes to walk to thebcoliseum from parking, if im not early! It will be nice not having to choose an aisle seat, and when two of us broad shouldered people dont have to sit sideways when the rink is full!
