They actually bought the Franchise , not the Business . That's why it is different than buying Hynes . But a franchise is a business. "Moncton Wildcats Hockey Club Inc." is the business name. I'm sure it's different than when it was the Alpines. I know it's different than buying Hynes. It's still Irving's business and he can choose the promotions he wants to offer.

It's still the same franchise. Changing owners and front office doesn't change that. The California Angels changed names like 5 times the last 20 years, doesn't make the team only 10 years old. In the end, it's their company/team and they can choose the promotions they want. If they want to offer specials, and extra activities, you just take advantage of them. It shouldn't affect you. I'm sure the Washington Nationals celebrated their 10th anniversary last year but the franchise records include those of the Expos. Even if they cut ties in that case I can see it...it's a city 1000 miles away!

The Montreal Canadiens were sold about 10 years ago and the ownership group surely has a different name on it...but obviously they didn't take down all the banners. I know it's their call and their business, I just find it excessively cheezy. Had the franchise had 10 years before Irving bought it and won 2 championships, I'll bet my house they wouldn't take the banners down or celebrate 20 years, it would be 30 years. Instead of trying to pretend the Alpines don't exist, they should just acknowledge is their franchise and it has come a long way.

But I certainly see your side of the argument. Look at the Titan ... LGM sold a couple of times ... moved it at least once. Personally, I only view the incarnation of the AB Titan as relevant ... while the Laval Titan are no more for this league. The exploits of Mario Lemieux did not occur in Bathurst. The Montreal Rocket became the PEI Rocket and then became the Charlottetown Islander when the Savards sold. I only view the team exploits in PEI as relevant and don't view the Montreal franchise as the same team ... even though they were. Same owners ... just different address. I don't connect CB with Granby ... I don't connect Quebec Remparts with Beauport (was that where it went ?) ... I don't connect BBA with St. John's ... even though all of those connections are there. The same players that played for the Alpines ... except those traded and ineligible to return the next year ... played for the Wildcats. They were the same team ... playing in the same rink ... for the same fans. It is no different than the sale and name change for the PEI franchise ... that is the same team to me and most others. If the team moves ... I see a new beginning. But when it gets sold and stays in the same place ... its the same team.

Murphy and the Klimas looked good except for Murphy's penalty in the last 3 minutes of the game on a power play ( and the give away prior to that). Hot weather doesn't help a pressure type game! As much as everyone rags about the Klimas they can definitely shoot the puck and they work hard every shift. And Murphy looks far better than last year. This is the first time I've seen Guay. He didn't look too bad. It's a good thing Rumble was a defenceman as the defence is going to be a challenge this year. Needs a lot of work

Needs a lot of work Entertaining game but the ice looked like crap and the stands were a sauna. To me it looked like glorified exhibition game. Hard to get a read on teams missing their core guys(Goulet Sprong Chlapik McDonald and Garland Sweeney). From what I have seen so far, they should let go of the 19 year olds Tibbo MacEwen and Guay and keep younger guys. Neither of those 3 have stood out since the season started. We already have guys like Klebanksyj Malatesta and Smith as 19 year olds, no need for guys at 19 being 3rd or 4th liners/bottom pair d-men.(Edit, saw that Tobbo was let go, it's a start). Give Crossman Lavoie Cyr and Corson the extra minutes. That was by far the best I have seen from the Klimas, they had a strong forechecking game and made things happen. They need to play that aggravating, pesky game to make things happen at this level. I don't see them putting up big points this year, but I can see 35-45 points over the season. Obviously once teams have all their NHL guys back it will be tougher.

One thing I found funny was the comments in the papers, the Cats talked like they stopped playing at 3-0 and PEI started at 3-0.
I thought it was a weird game all night, the WC probably didn't deserve the 3-0 lead, they played pretty well but were not dominating by any stretch, then after that, they made a few mistakes, but the play was still pretty even, not like they went from playing great to falling apart like the scoring would indicate. In terms of the momentum, the teams traded periods of time where they held the upper hand throughout the game.

I think too with that its different at the pro level than jr. level because in top level competition fans not in league cities follow which isn't the case in lower league. There aren't piles of fans of in random Quebec cities picking favourite teams in the Q unless they actually are going to games. But that does happen in the pros and if people don't have a tie with the city they'll often stay with the team even when they move.... lots of people who stayed Raiders fans through their moves to LA and back to Oakland, handfuls of Nordiques fans who became Avalanche fans, Expos fans who became Nationals fans and hell I even know a Sonics turned Thunder fan. Or to go really old school Giants & Dodgers fans.
