Haven't done the GDT thread before. Nothing earth shattering to say. Moose up 3-0 after being shutout last night. I guess the Sea Dogs figure the will start their backup shitty goalie against the sad sack Mooseheads. Turcotte takes over after 3rd goal. Durandeau scores his first.

Fortier looks to have much more jump to his game last 2 starts, he is seemingly all over the puck all night. Love it.

Solid team effort tonight, and great job by the team shutting down Veleno. I think both Sommpi and Putstinev are going to be good ones in a few years. Fortier had a really good game tonight, I'm looking forward to seeing us onnce Meier is back and we get a glimpse of Cody Donaghey.

We know Saint John had their C squad out there, but I liked the effort shown by the Moose tonight. They placed fairly decent defensively, and buried a good portion of their chances. Fortier was the best Moosehead tonight. Brassard played well as well.
Some points on the rink / outside the rink:
- I knew of course that the round-about was opened at cogswell and north park. I did not know that Rannie was one way from the round-about to Gottingen. This means there are about 30-40 more parking spaced on the left side of Rannie that can be used on game days. That will save a bit of walking for those that don't want to pay $7 to park in Scotia Square.
- In my humble opinion, there isn't any more/less room in the new seats as their were in the old ones. My 6'5" frame was fine in the new seats. For those wondering about the cup holders: They are on the backs of the seats in front of you in most areas, and are on the arm rests on the removable seats in sections 6-10 and 21-25.
- Concession prices are close to being just as expensive as NHL rinks or MLB ballparks across North America. It's $8.25 for a 20oz draft now. $5.75 for a bag of popcorn. It isn't just Scotiabank that are paying for the arena upgrades, which really isn't that surprising.
- The male washroom behind section 19-20 is renovated, but there are no more stalls/urinals than before. The signs in the washroom advertise "less lines", but at least at that washroom, it will be the same as before.
- No goal judges / Red light: The heck? Obviously we know the goal judges were obsolete, but for some goals at the opposite end of the rink, the red light was the only way we knew if the puck went in. I'm thinking there could still be a red light monitored by a goal judge in the video room. But we may just have to get used to reacting when the players react, or the fans at that end of the rink react.
Good game tonight. Enjoyed coming back to the rink.

Holy shit yes, you're right! the red light was missing! I knew some thing wasn't right and I just couldn't put my finger on it. That's absolutely ridiculous.
And yes, much better effort tonight. Both teams are young and inconsistent, but tonight was a good night, and it's great to see Fortier break out. I think he'll probably end the season as our leading scorer, Meier may miss a lot of time and he'll likely end up on Fortier's line.

Previously the biggest, most consistent lineups were Subway and the coffee stand - both gone. The new additions mostly empty - I mean who goes to a hockey game looking for a $15 lobster roll or 'Asian Fusion'??

Hey Reesor...curious as to what row you were sitting in. I have my suspicions that the seats in the lower bowl that are above the railing Row J have more room then the seats that were below the railing. I definitely had less room in my seat in row G.

I was sitting with my father at the top of section 18. But I just went and sat down in section 17 just to try out the new seats. My opinion might be different when sitting in the new seats for 2 1/2 hours. But I didn't find there to be any more/less room than before. I was sitting in section 10 row D for the first part of the world hockey championships in 08, and I did find that those old removeable seats had less room. Wouldn't be surprised if the new removeble seats were the same. It's tough to give more room. You'd have to make the chairs shallower or something, which wouldn't be comfortable. A side note: Are the entrances below sections 1 and 13 lower than before? It looks like they put another row of seats in. That in combination with the one or two extra seats where the goal judges used to be, and there may be more than 10,595 seats now.

I am not sure about them fitting more seats in those area's. The quote I heard was "we put in 10,000 new seats". The sell out attendance is normally 10,595 so I am not sure if the 595 are seats in the luxury boxes? Not sure.

Didn't make the game Saturday due to my softball playoffs, but just some comments on the arena upgrades.
- The seats are definitely more comfortable imo. There seems to be some varying opinions on this. They are cushioned but firm, so maybe people with a really slouching posture will prefer the old seats which were very deep and rounded. I really like the new seats. I am 6' and have very long legs for my height and I don't find there's any more or less leg room than before. The cupholders are a very welcome addition. I do find there's a bit less room when letting people pass by to get to their seats where i'm at the end of an aisle.
- I like the new concession options. Donairs should have been in the building forever. Not sure if the Asian noodle place will be successful. I will probably try it but I eat a lot of different ethic cuisine, whereas most hockey fans probably don't. I think the BBQ place should do well, as well as the Halifax Links. I also like the idea of the Taste of 902 booth where you can get a more gourmet snack from a different establishment every few events. I had the beef taco from 2 Doors Down on Friday and it was pretty good.
I do not understand why they do not put a Tim Hortons in there. It would instantly be the busiest concession stand in the building. Even the other coffee place that was removed was one of the busiest.
I also do not understand why they don't mitigate the logjams of people in the concourse meshing with the concession lineups with snaking ropes for each concession stand so there is a barrier between people walking around and people standing in line. This is the cause of all of the congestion problems on the Brunswick St side of the building. Very annoying.
They should have kept Subway, added a Tim Hortons to each side as well as the new food choices and taken away one of 2 of those pizza/hot dog/fries places on each side.
- The bathrooms above section 19-20 are no different. Just a facelift. Same problems as before.
- Concession prices are pretty standard. $8.25 for a tallboy/20oz draft is pretty much the same at most sporting events now. $8-12 for food is fair with quite a few options now.
Overall, the seats and food options are welcomed, but they missed the boat on managing foot traffic, and not adding a Tim Hortons. Bathroom upgrades were only cosmetic.

Re- food prices at the Scotiabank Center- at least I won't have to fly to Montreal to pay Bell Center prices anymore!

Only speculation on my part, but large franchises like Subway and Tims means less revenue for Scotiabank/WTC. They would rather put in generic places to provide those foods and they get to keep most of the profit.
