You can throw all the stats you want at me, but you said they're happy to be mid pack and they most definitely weren't mid pack last season. In the end no one was really close to Rimouski or Quebec so that's hardly an indictment on the Cats season. Bottom line is they won the division and finished 2nd overall. Not even remotely mid pack. It doesn't really matter how they got there. You can only play with the hand your dealt. Would they have been a mid-pack if they were playing in the East Division? Quite possibly, but they don't play in that division. Did you think they should have sold at during the trade period last year? That wouldn't have sent a great message to the fans at a time when they clearly had Saint John well within their grasp for the division lead and hadn't seen past the first round in five years. It also would have been foolish to go all in and load up and thankfully they didn't do that either. Instead they got rid of some bad apples and brought in some character guys. Admittedly they ended up with a pretty poor return on Tkachev, but overall I think they made the right moves considering the situation. We're not even at the quarter mark of this season so it's way too early to know what they're going to do when the trade period comes around. Speculation is fun and all, but I'm quite sure no one on here really has a clue what's going to happen. We haven't seen them play Saint John's actual roster or a single team from the West yet so it's pretty hard to say how they stack up. To be considered a league championship contender, you have to at the same level as the top teams and the Cats were not. As I said earlier, "2nd overall" was a product of beating up on a weak division. Pretty obvious when you play for a .500 winning percentage against the two other divisions that, this one is a lot weaker. You can deny it all you want but the numbers clearly back it up. You can continue to bury them all you want but I am quite sure the Cats consider last season a success. As do many others including me. I think I left the rink unhappy once all season and actually saw all 7 games of the halifax series in person. The series against the Moose really drew a ton of local attention that the team hadn't seen in years and brought in some new fans. I'm sure if they ever did a full out rebuild you would likely just come on here and criticize every prospect they pick over and over anyway like you've done already the past few years with Holwell, Askew Murphy etc who have all been very good to start the season.

People forget that we were sellers last year. We traded Lalonde and Tkachev ... and Olivier ... and had Sweeney dealt that would have brought us Donaghey and Brassard (at the draft) and one or two young players ... but that deal got scuttled because of the injury to Donaghey. We took Burke as a throw in (he wasn't even in the Q at the time). We were in the process of dealing away 3 of our top players. I don't think we were trying to compete with the Top teams last year ... but it ended up in the end that we were battling for first overall. But I agree ... we were battling for 1st overall because we were strongest in a weak division ... and so our point total was artificially high.

I'm not burying anything, just stating a fact. Weather you left the rink happy or not, the WC were not in the same area code as Rimouski or Quebec, no matter how many times they beat up on Bathurst and PEI.
