Who knows , I'm hoping we inquired. He would have been a perfect fit. But he was wanted by the OHL meaning before you talked to him every OHL team would have had to agree to not take him. If Halifax dropped Brassard right now I doubt a WHL team calls him. But Burke was playing in the WHL. Since no WHL team picked him up, the Q and OHL teams both had an equal chance.

I'm sure Moncton would be a better choice for him than some OHL teams...obviously London probably wasn't one of those.

Rouyn Noranda is probably one of the favourites at his point and why wouldn't they want to add one of the best defensemen in the league. I'm sure there's a market for Sweeney. McEwen is the kind of player contenders want that can float anywheres in the lineup. This deal improves them quite a bit. They add a top pairing defenceman and some depth at the forward position. McEwen is a jack of all trades type guy. And as far as Sherbrooke goes ... They acquired Pelletier relatively cheap in the off season. They're a bottom half team at the moment and have a good core of young players. Leger has great potential , he seems to be in the doghouse here, With a change of scenery , I can see him break out. They also pick up a 2nd rounder and a good prospect with Lavoie. Sherbrooke is 6-1-2-1 last ten games.. they are trending up and unlikely to be bottom half team by trade deadline Rouyn trade is just ridiculous....... why would they want to add one of the best defensemen in the league? debatable whether Sweeney is that anyhow... but your proposing they drop one of the best dmen in the league to add a guy who is probably no better... plus they have to drop an overager to add Sweeney... you don't factor that in Like I said if you really want to discuss trade proposals it would be nice if you'd consider it from both teams viewpoints.. not just yours If Sweeney was playing like he did last year ... he is definitely in the conversation for best Dman in the Q. But he isn't playing that way this year. .. and injured until the trading period opens ... so right now he is not in the conversation.

I don't think 20 YO go on waivers. They are free to move without that concern. That is why they sign contracts.

They are FA's to go where they want...at least as I understand it. He was in calgary, so if he had waivers it would be WHL not OHL...

Why would Rouyn Noranda make that move? When trying to start discussion.... it is always worthwhile to consider who is actually looking to sell? The best team in the league thus far is probably not interested in moving a valuable piece from that lineup Sherbrooke also on paper were expected to be contenders this year.. they did struggle early but have played better as of late... i'm more inclined to think they would be buyers as opposed to sellers Rouyn Noranda is probably one of the favourites at his point and why wouldn't they want to add one of the best defensemen in the league. Much as I would love to see Myers come home to the Cats, the only way it happens IMO is at the draft as part of a package for Garland - and in the unlikely event we trade Garland, I think the return needs to be players for 2018/19 and not 19 year olds for next season. I think you will see the Cats tinker up ... Then step back the next couple of years to peak with a powerhouse for the move downtown in 2018 ... Hodge alluded to them wanting a strong contender to christen the new building.

Glad we got this thread going.,, Anyone else have any ideas for Moncton at Christmas ? Yes ... sell in a small way. Deal Sweeney if you have a good offer .... deal Garland if you get a great offer. Deal Leger if he has asked for a trade. .. but keep him if he hasn't.

I think they'll make a push for some of the higher end "NCAA guys" they own the rights to. Based on stats, O'Leary is doing next to nothing in the USHL. That can't be helping his draft status and I could see him having a change of heart.
But that's not really the type of addition the Cats need to make. They more so need a guy like Krys or McInnis, but both are having good seasons and I highly doubt you ever see them here.
In the end I just can't see the Cats making any major additions that sacrifice the future. The year the new building opens is too important and players like Crossman, Cyr, Lavoie, Aspirot plus the two first round picks in 2016 should all be key contributors to that season.
If they do any buying I expect it to be Beaton and Zilbert-esque additions like last season, but on the blueline instead of up front. If they could get a guy like Guillaume Beaudry, Nicolas Latulippe or Kevin Laliberté without giving up a key asset I'm sure they'll look into it.

I've been told Roger Shannon is looking to make a deal with Sherbrooke to bring Logan Johnston to Moncton. Another Fredericton connection. He was linemates with Mika Cyr with Fredericton Midget AAA last season.
Chad Krys' brother Luke is a top American eligible for the 2016 Q draft. It'll be interesting to see if he's one of the Wildcats selections. I don't think they have ever played together on the same team. That's easily a selling point that Roger Shannon and company can use to lure them both to Moncton.
