www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/halifax-mooseheads-trading-deadline-1.3394496Found this over on HF Boards, surprised it hasn't been mentioned here. The article is pretty "bleh, old news", but the last line raises an eyebrow. Blichfeld seems like a really good talent with some size, but I hope we're not passing up on a really good player in the draft. Especially since if our target year is 2019, this just doesn't seem to make sense.

That is very interesting, considering Palov sent out these two tweets at the deadline: Of course we would tend to believe the GM, but Palov's tweets make more sense unless Blichfeld is a superstar. He's playing in Sweden's U20 league and among the leaders on his team in scoring. But he didn't make Denmark's U20 team at the world jrs.

Probably a mistake on the CBC story- is there any way we can find the 50 man protected list for the Mooseheads? Tried searching for it on the Q site but the site sucks ffs.
If Blichfield is on our 50 then the story has merit but pretty sure he had to be released when Meier was sent back.

If Blichfield is on our 50 then the story has merit but pretty sure he had to be released when Meier was sent back. My understanding of how it works is this: 1. Meier was a 1st Rd NHL pick which allows him to go on a special list and allowed you to draft 2 imports last July. 2. You drafted Blichfield and Somppi. 3. Once Meier was sent back you had to release one of the new guys or trade Meier. However, Bilchfield never played and never signed a player card ... never showed up. So because only one was on the roster when Meier returned nobody had to be moved out. It is only when you have 3 in town that you need to move one out. And more specific ... as soon as all 3 have played a game you have 2 weeks to move one. At the end of this year Bilchfield will be deemed to have not reported and go on a special list ... and Russell could actually draft another import. But if all 3 show up then one has to be moved out.

(considering the article doesn't provide quotation) It's all very confusing. Last night a caller to Rinkrant asked if Blichfeld could be brought over to fill the empty Euro spot, to which Johnny replied it wouldn't be practical because he would be mid-season, which implies Blichfeld is still on the Mooseheads protected list. He then went on to say the Mooseheads will be getting at least a top 10 selection in the next Euro draft, which implies they have an open Euro spot and Blichfeld is not on their protected list. I would tend to go with Palov; the CBC does very little Moosehead stories and the reporter seems to be a freelancer doing a wide range of stories.

That makes sense since by having 2 active Euros, you would have to waive the 3rd...unless Meier was 20 and played pro all year.

I don't know if Blichfield IS Mooseheads property, but he CAN be Mooseheads property.

You'd have to think the Mooseheads will move on from Blichfield and use their pick in the CHL Import Draft in July.

Otherwise, roll the dice with a pretty high Euro pick.

They're eligible to trade Blichfield too at the draft so a team with a later euro pick may have some interest if he ranks 3rd on the pecking order for Halifax.
