Here are the 10 players listed as the best prospects in the WC system...some interesting stuff which I will note below... 1-Matthew Waite, 1999, G www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2849192-Grayden Gottschalk, 1998, F www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2690363-Sam Meisenheimer, 1998, F www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2516794-Mike Cyr, 1999, F www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2728525-Alexandre Lavoie, 1999, D www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2757766-Jack Grant, 1999, G www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=3047407-Noah Corson, 1998, F www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=3043728-Victo`s 2016 1st rounder 9-Jeremy McKenna, 1999, F www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=27580710-Jonathan Aspirot, 1999, D www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=354151A few interesting comments... -Seems line another `positive`article to try and sway the attention from the losing streak and poor performance from some of the big acquisitions at the deadline. -I assume this means Waite is reporting next year, since they excluded McInnis, Krys, Dawe, Petruzzeli, Destefani etc. Same for Grant though, I`m not sure they want to go with two 17 year old rookies? -I find it strange that a couple of free agents they just signed in Gottschalk and Meisenheimer, who are not exactly tearing up Jr.A at 17 are listed above guys like Cyr, Lavoie and Corson who were drafted above them. I know stats are not always the whole story, but... -another strange thing, if Victo finishes bottom 8 as anticipated, maybe top 5-6 if a few teams pass them(Char She?). Why would that pick ONLY be the #8 prospect when most others are 3rd or 4th rounders at best? Are we setting up for another double "trade down" where they end up in the 2nd round and add a few 3rd to 5th rounders?

He's not exactly tearing it up, although I'm not sure about his teams quality. I would think Cyr would be first overall and Waite be like midpack although their number one goalie prospect. I wonder if putting him first with the two free agents is some propaganda by the wildcats showing that they can get good players who have other options to report to the team. Also, Waite comes from a hockey family with both his dad and uncle currently goalie coaches in the NHL so putting him #1 may have been influenced by his name.

Funny that they took out most of the NCAA guys this year after last year's edition of this list was heavily ridiculed for being a huge pile of BS. Nice coup though if they can get Waite here as I thought he looked pretty good in training camp.
I figured Cyr would be first or second, but maybe this ranking is based on potential impact next season? Not really sure on that one.
I've never seen a future draft pick listed in a team's prospect depth chart. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Wouldn't be surprised to see them trade down to acquire more picks. It will probably all depend on where exactly Victoriaville finishes.

But it would make sense if Shannon went up to see him considering he went to Ontario to watch players

I'll stick to my guns.

But he apparently still lives in NS in the offseason.

It will probably all depend on where exactly Victoriaville finishes. It is definitely humorous. Also funny is that in our top "prospect" is an American that might not even want to play in the Q and the two guys after him are free agents.

The Mooseheads have Shawinigan's pick which looks like it could be anywhere from 13th-16th. Victo pick is at 8, and I believe they will pass Quebec for sure so that pick could be 9th-11th. Halifax will have 3 early 2nd rounders so a possible trade could be made there if it's something Moncton wants to do. Probably not too significant if they move is from 13 to 11, but it is if it's say 15-9.

I was looking at this 9 months later...
Top 10 Cats prospects on Feb 1st...
1-Matthew Waite, 1999, G
Has had a lot of ups and downs, could be a #1 goalie in the Q, not sold that he will be a guy you win with though...
2-Grayden Gottschalk, 1998, F
Didn't even show up to camp...bust.
3-Sam Meisenheimer, 1998, F
Has not looked good so far for an 18 year old coming from Jr.A, might be gone at midseason.
4-Mike Cyr, 1999, F
Showed skill in preseason, jury is out, should be back within a month.
5-Alexandre Lavoie, 1999, D
Has not looked bad, not a high upside guy but could be a steady #4-5 guy.
6-Jack Grant, 1999, G
Did not show up to camp...not looking good so far...mediocre Jr.a numbers.
7-Noah Corson, 1998, F
Traded him for a 10th rounder...
8-Victo`s 2016 1st rounder
Managed to trade back to the 3rd round from 8th overall. Crazy!
9-Jeremy McKenna, 1999, F
Probably the best of the 17 year olds, has shown flashes, but a lot of dry spells.
10-Jonathan Aspirot, 1999, D
now playing forward, potential as a depth forward

With the exception of Waite. maybe Cyr and McKenna. and Aspirot I like his rough style of play, not much to build on.

Hopefully Moncton adds a few high calibre young players at Christmas and they can "convince" a few NCAA guys (Dawe, Cash, any of the Americans) that Moncton is the best place for them.

Good luck with that Shannon keeps drafting dreams, hoping to hit a home run without a bat.

I'm not here to defend Roger Shannon but I find it very unfair to compare Moncton to Halifax in terms of rebuilding. Halifax started unloading last season and picked up most of their assets used to acquire young players at the trade deadline. This is what Moncton's plans are this season season , so the better compairison would be where we are at this time next season. We do have quite a few trades assets in Askew, Klimas, Holwell, Cormier. Those players will receive a decent return.
Timo Meier = 1st , 2nd, 4th
Very comparable to the returns we're speculating for Askew.
Cavan Fitzgerald = Chainey , 3rd
Holwell should be able to land something close to that.
Donaghey & Moynihan + 3rd = Taylor(basically a throw in) , 1st , O'Leary , 2nd , 4th
I scratched the 3rd and O'Leary cause I think that was about his value at the time. The Klima twins should get at least a 1st , 2nd and 4th otherwise keep them for overagers next year.
Hunter + King = 7th + 8th
If we decide to move Cormier , we'll probably see a 3rd / 4th in return.
