Hockey is shutdown for their respective schools....might as well try and make a few bucks with a crack at playing pro.

No CIS and NHL having a taxi squad has created a perfect storm where these guys have little reason to sit around a school for the next 3 months when they can make a few K each and get some pro hockey experience. School will still exist next semester and the learning environment should only improve when compared to the last 12-18 months. I completely get why they'd take the money and experience right now.

If you're the CIS and offering no hockey right now are you really going to not let them all play next season? I can see them letting there being some forgiveness on that.

Rule used to be that a player had to sit out for a year I think following their last pro game.

Rule used to be that a player had to sit out for a year I think following their last pro game. You would also have to wonder if they might lose some of their Q education money. I always thought that if you signed a contract at the AHL level or higher - you lose all of your education money. These guys have agents and advisors though - so they would surely be making informed decisions.

I was thinking about all the Scholarship Money they forfeit . I know some of the guys that have left school, they’re not leaving because they’re bad students. In a lot of cases, these kids are a semester or 2 away from graduating due to all the courses they’ve taken over the years.. they’ll finish their school, forfeit education money that they don’t really need and get to play hockey. USports did change the rules last year to let guys come back but I don’t know where they’re at now with those rules.

Its not like these guys graduate at 20 with no University behind them. A lot pull large course loads considering their time commitment to hockey at 19 and 20 and go to the CIS with a a lot of credits already completed. And wouldn't this seasons tuition be paid by now? They could be doing distance courses as it is and keep being students while playing in the AHL.
