good trade for Winnipeg. They have good prospect depth and held on to their top guys while getting a big piece. My big concern with Winnipeg is they are a big team, today's game is more predicated on speed and quickness. Size is still an asset at playoff time but you need the right mix. Last year LV played an up tempo game and skated them into the ice. They could use another mobile d-man, losing Morrissey really hurt them. I think Kevin Hayes is the definition of the over-rated deadline UFA. Guy has hit 20 goals once and never hit 50 points which he should this season. Maybe he works out in Winnipeg but I don't think he's anything special and definitely not worth a 1st+ as a rental. I know they’re different players and play different positions but I’d rather have Nyquist or Zuccarello over Hayes and they cost substantially less at the end of the day. Now being a C gives you a boost at this time of year but Hayes is at best a 3rd line C on a contender.

Granlund to Nashville for Fiala. Great trade for Nashville IMO.

Brannstrom heading to Ottawa in the package. Have to think Stone has had some contract talks with Vegas for them to give up a prospect like that. Brannstrom, Oscar Lindberg, Second Round 2020 for Mark Stone.

Sens needed to add an elite prospect rather than a bunch of quantity ...

Yep. As a rental that's a fair price. But with him signing an extension I think that becomes a steal for Vegas. Keep all their future 1sts and get a hell of an impact forward on a very fair extension.

Damm it’s gonna be some rough seas in Ottawa for 3-4 years . If Colorado gets Jack Hughes next year and Baby Boy Bowers makes the jump ......Ottawa’s Attedance numbers next year may not reach 5 figures .

If history has taught us anything the trade that a would be contender pulls off that has the biggest impact on the postseason is an under the radar one. So while all these moves Columbus has done etc look sexy there is always a little trade made that people glance past that is the talk of the postseason.
Last year it was Michal Kempny.
It is some depth move. Adding a guy nobody thinks will make a big impact that does.
Could be the Flames adding Oscar Fantenburg or the Caps with Hagelin. Maybe Blues getting Del Zotto, Nashville adding Cody McLeod or even Jets acquiring Matt Hendricks.
Today there were several moves made about the future too.

I like what Winnipeg did , they got bigger and tougher to play against down the middle and that comes in handy out West come Playoff Time .

I think it’s a steal for Vegas but I’m surprised Ottawa didn’t put a condition in the trade that if Stone resigned then they got a 1st instead of that 2nd... unless the condition of him resigning got them Brannstrom instead of lesser pieces. Ottawa couldn’t really hold onto him because if what Elliot Friedman reported is to be believed, which I suspect it is, then he was clearly going to walk to UFA status as opposed to resigning in Ottawa. Surprised Ottawa couldn’t find a way to get more for a player that was clearly willing to resign with his new team.
