With No Cup will they Retire his Number ? I think yes. Hardware wise, with the Habs he may not have as much as some other legends but his international record is sublime. I think the important thing is - I'm 35 (well next month anyway). I have extremely vague memories of the '93 cup win. According to demographics - 40% of NHL fans are under 29. None of them saw the Habs win a cup, none of them have seen any of these players who's numbers hang in the rafters actually play. Under 20% of fans are 65 or older. The point being - Price is the biggest legend the Habs have had in a long time, and a guy actual current fans have actually seen play. He's the superstar of this generation of Habs fans, he defined an era in a way that no other Hab in the last 25 years has been able to. That's my argument for "yes".

wow did not see that coming honestly
not that its a bad choice at all..... just i would have thought Gallagher would be the logical bridge to Suzuki being named captain in a few years time

It was obvious that he has lost some speed to his game.....and the way he plays the game, his style, it has to have taken a toll on his body. Just my opinion, I think they chose Suzuki because who really knows what Gallagher has left in him......and also, I can see Gallagher as someone that they may want to trade off at some point......perhaps this season. Perhaps they chose Suzuki as they would rather a player to wear the "C" to be a long term Captain.....

Obviously I’m not in the room, I don’t know what Suzuki is truly like and maybe he’s the right choice for captain (whether it be now or in the future) but I think it’s a little unfair to a 23 year old kid, on a rebuilding team, going into the first year of his new deal that he hasn’t really shown he’s worth yet to slap the C on him in a fishbowl like Montreal.

I don't have anything against Suzuki, but if I was coach I would have given the c to Gallagher or Edmundson. Suzuki needs to focus on growing his game and doesn't need the added BS from the Montreal fans and media...the whole "are you going to learn french" thing got old a long time ago, but it's a fact of life. I would rather see veterans face that BS for awhile.
