I am guessing the Mets don't have as big as a following as the Yankees? Are they bringing in as much TV revenue? You wouldn't think so.

Andrew Bennetendi 5 years - 75 Million ? I guess he just didn;t want to play in Toronto or they wouldn't go to a 5th Year ......but at 28 years old I just don't see that . Head Scratcher .

I think with a lot of players, they end up with multiple comparable offers in terms of dollars and term. Then it comes down to qualitative factors - lifestyle, taxes, proximity to family, contender, coaches/mgmt … some of these you can control, others not so much. Toronto has some disadvantages - foreign country, high taxes, far from family and friends, etc. - so they no doubt miss out on more guys that they were close on. They often need to go a bit higher on dollars or longer on term to get their man.

Perhaps regarding term and AAV, but in terms of what you are getting, I think I would have him ranked at the bottom or close to the big SS group. Not saying he is terrible - just a bit less than the other guys ...

Not saying he is terrible - just a bit less than the other guys ... He is the best defensive SS of the group and his power and run production is up there. He signed 7 years and 177M. Turner got 11 years and 300M. Correa 12 years and 315M. Bogaerts 11 years and 280 mil. Swanson is the best value by a mile IMO. His contract will be done at 35 and teams will be paying the other 3 70-120M in their late 30's/early 40's.

Juan Toribio @juanctoribio · 12h With Trevor Bauer reinstated, the #Dodgers will now have to decide what the future holds. Regardless of decision, they'll have to pay him $32 million next season.

Dodgers plan to Release him . So does he end up in an Oakland or in a New York? He could push a contender over the top after the noise dies down from signing him. But I could see MLB wanting him to be in a nothing market where there's no media, too.

But I could see MLB wanting him to be in a nothing market where there's no media, too. Read an article suggesting possible landing spots ... the author suggested Texas (desperate for pitching help and spending like drunken sailors), Tampa (as a team always looking for a bargain on a buy-low contract - so an Oakland could fit as well), Toronto (contender looking for pitching, foreign country may be less media pressure- though I doubt that - Toronto is not a small market media team despite what some Americans might think) or Cleveland (looking for a bargain as a quasi contender with limited budget, plus existing familiarity with the player, may be willing to give him a second chance - would that maybe apply to Shapiro and Atkins? Did their time in Cleveland overlap??).

Toronto were quick to part ways with Roberto Osuna a few years back for an Assault on a Female . Now I know it's a little different with this guy in the sense that he is kinda Freaky and has hooked up with lots of Freaky Women over the years and it was kept quiet until it wasn't but I just can't see The Blue Jays getting involved with this guy . He did however say when he signed with the Dodgers that he looked long and hard at The Mets and Jays . You think the Rangers are spending like Drunken Sailors ? Then this Cohen Guy in Queens , NY is on a Month Long Bender .

Swanson's term is the most appealing, but he has by far the least track record of the group - his career WAR is less than half of that of Bogaerts/Correa/Turner, and almost half of that number was earned in 2022 - take out that career season, and he is a pretty average player. If he reverts to his pre-2022 production levels, he won't be producing anywhere close to the AAV.
