Chicoutimi goes on the powerplay and proceed to score but have the goal call back for a reason I still don't know, Baie-Comeau kills the penalty off then get a powerplay of their own where they score the go-ahead goal and then add another as I type this on a 2-on-0 breakaway....Sigh....
Halifax it is I guess.

Could be a turning point. The difference between playing a .500 team and a .750 team in round 1. I felt their plan since the trade deadline was to finish at least 6th and avoid Halifax and Quebec in Round 1. This would give the younger players some playoff experience and a legit chance of winning a round. I think they would have a decent chance in a first round series against anyone other than the top two. Eagles are 17-13-1 since all the wheeling and dealing and the Wildcats are 15-15-2. Of course, we will find out today if they make 6th or drop back to 7th, but getting 6th could lead to a series win and some valuable playoff experience gained. Going forward, add an impact Euro that'll be around for a few years and a couple of 20's for a decent price in the offseason and try to go a little deeper in 2024 before going all-in in 2025. Maybe I'm too optimistic... and this plan never really gets off the ground if they finish 7th and get blown out four times in the first round. Problem with the plan was even with the schedule heavy on teams we should have been better then we still couldn't do enough to dig out of the hole we were in. Now our best hope is to win 1 game and avoid a sweep to our biggest rival who happen to have a powerhouse while deploying essentially the opposite philosophy that we have. I still think waiting to acquire some of the vets or just keeping some we already had and keeping the picks and using more of them and trading less was the best route. Maybe we finish lower and pick higher and over the next 2-3 years see more return on that patience. We panicked after a bad first half and tried some shortcuts that for this season didn't change a whole lot. This weekend was the season in a nutshell. After finally seemingly like they came together last night to gut out a season defining win vs Halifax and have the chance to go into Moncton and put a scare into a 1st round opponent we completely shit the bed and end up playing one of the 4 league powerhouses in round 1. Just a huge letdown but the first half should have led to trading back not pushing forward. Always when you're in the position we were coming off a last place finish and still needing to rebuild through the draft with a huge void in veteran leadership. Hopefully the mistakes don't keep the young core from reaching their true potential. Right now i'd gladly take more lottery balls and a different playoff opponent if this is what buying and selling at the same time results in.

When you look at the Eagles line-up with four 25 + goal scorers and talented Dmen it's hard to understand the struggles of the Power Play. In the last 22 games the Power Play scored 11 goals in 77 opportunities which was only a 14.28% success rate, while giving up 2 shorthanded goals.

Off season goals should be ADD Scoring, Add a Goaltender and do what you can to keep Squires from leaving as he may be our only hope in building around him for the next two years and make a run at something

Squires was given a nice opportunity and he made the most of it, why would he leave? Sly needs to roll out the red carpet to keep this guy here for the next 2 seasons, he is franchise material.
I predict a top 6 next season that looks drastically different then the one we have now, with maybe only Squires and Newcombe back in there. The point production of Ivan/Johnson/Boutin has to be replaced and patience, as we seen this year, is not Goyens or Sly's strong suit. I have a feeling guys are moving out and guys are coming in.
Something tells me we see a pretty good makeover up front and in net, while the D are pretty much set with those who are leaving and Desjardins/Waugh waiting in the wings.

What would be your choices not considering players who have an NHL contract?

There's no point in currently guessing who the 20's will be yet next season as we still don't know what the final results of the Langlois and Desruisseaux trades are yet.
