The Will Murphy thing is interesting. He got scooped up by Summerside in the MHL draft too, would be great if he spent a year there before jumping to the Q

Highlights - They have narrowed down their Head Coach to 1 Guy , negotiations ongoing . Thanked Jon Goyens but it just wasn't a good situation . They spoke on the Thursday before the Draft and he informed him he was being let go . - Cape Breton averages 25-30 practices less then Bathurst because of the Travel . Charlottetown must have similar stats . - Sly said that the move from 8 to 12 was based on the fact that there were a Clear Cut Top 5 in the Draft then from 5-15 were a Toss Up . - Ricard and Another Guy were the Targets and although CSR had him at 21 , their Sources said Rouyn Noranda wanted him and would have took Ricard with their Pick , which is why The Eagles pulled the trigger at 12 . - Two Euro's will be Drafted , they have agreements in place with 2 to come over , one is 17 , one is 18 .....now they just have to be there when it's The Eagles turn .....Bet the Farm ....one is a Goalie . ( tandem with Ruccia ). - No Americans reporting to Camp . Their opinion of the Q must be somewhat low , he said none of them even returned his Phone Calls . - The Young Girl from CB West has a Full Ride at Wisconsin ....that is pretty impressive . - Murphy was available when he was because he told the Quebec Teams he wouldn't report to any of them . Is it OK to smile about that ? - One very interesting Question was about Player Development ......it caught both of them Off Guard . - Someone asked about Free Agents from Ontario and he said the Rules aren't as flexible with them anymore . ( Hopefully someone will elaborate on that because my Buddy asked me something at the same time ) - It was a very good turn out . - Non Hockey .......complaints that Season Ticket Holders were not being appreciated enough .Taylor Collingwood fielded those concerns as there was no sign of Shaw or MacIntosh and their names were never mentioned . - The Cape Breton Post Coverage of The Eagles was criticized at great length . - John Hanna commented specifically on Newcombe , Schmitt , Biggar and Roy saying that these Kids want to be here and they are 100 % committed to being a success in Cape Breton . - Cam MacDonald's Family unfortunately lost everything in the Halifax Area Wild Fires . - They are still targetting a #1 Center and my Gut tells me he is gonna give up a High Pick and a Prospect to get one during the Training Camp Trading Period . - I forget the Kid's Name but he is being tugged at by both sides ....His Agent wants him to report to Cape Breton but his parents want him to go to the USHL then on to the NCAA. The Agent has concerns about him not being an overly strong student . * Someone else will know the name of the kid I am talking about . I am sure other Posters can add to this .........

Context clues I would say the USHL/Eagles pick kid is Connor Davis (No not Connor McDavid)

And the Ontario based kids, I think I can somewhat explain.
The OHL introduced a U18 draft a few years ago now, so if you got passed over in your first year of midget, there's a second (or even 3rd chance) to get picked up by an OHL team. It gives the OHL the first dibs on late bloomers basically.
The part about Ontario-based kids that I'm not fully sure on but I think I've heard about before is that there is a waiver system in place so if an OHL region kid tries to sign with a Q team, the OHL teams still get a final swing on em. Not 100% on that one
With allllll of that said... There are still OHL region kids who slip through to the Q and become strong contributors often. Just look at someone like Vincent Labelle with Moncton last year (London draft pick) Giovanni Morneau in Charlottetown (Ottawa draft pick), Ty Higgins in Bathurst (a U18 pick by Owen Sound), Noah Reinhart with SJ, and overage Evan Boucher with Halifax (Flint draft pick)
The OHL definitely puts more emphasis on it but I would say it's definitely a blindspot for CB. I mean just look at that list... Anyone notice a trend of Maritime teams and 0 for CB?

The OHL has a U18 draft so each team can take 3 17 year-olds. It is common for these kids to either make the roster or be removed from the protected list the next year to make space for the next year's picks.

I have a pretty good idea who they're targetting as a Euro goalie. I would say the first Euro pick will be an NHL draft eligible goalie, I am not as confident on who exactly it would be. The Davis situation is interesting. So you have an agent telling a family that their kid is not "smart" enough to head to the U.S. I am pretty sure that not every D1 hockey player is splitting the atom, if you are good enough, a school will come knocking. Keep in mind his brother is in the U.S. already. The #1 Center is an interesting comment as well. I guess we can assume that Cam MacDonald is not being brought in to play Center. He has played some center in the past, but he is more of a natural winger. So who does Cape target as a #1 Center, that pool is pretty limited.

He was a centre and a Dman for SJ last year. If CB is looking for a #1 C, it means that they view him as a 1B or 2 option at centre. Something like: Newcombe - X - Squires Euro - MacDonald - Houde Patterson/Fullerton - Boutin - Shields

This isn't D1 college football or basketball that earn millions on top of millions of dollars for the school

This isn't D1 college football or basketball that earn millions on top of millions of dollars for the school I know exactly how strict they are, but with that said, they will also offer the help needed to make it work, if it's a good fit for the player and the school, Not every kid who turns to the U.S. plays D1 college hockey, 2-3 years of USHL and the progression does not continue, you can be de-committed as quickly as you were committed.

I still think there is an option to use him on the wing and get a #1 C in the middle of the 2 Cam's. I would be really surprised if they use Boutin as a 20 on the 3rd line, Roy slots in there I would say.
