Hey i'm just glad to see anybody willing to report to Baie Comeau Unconfirmed rumors that they were inspired by a trivia team at Hunter's.

Hey i'm just glad to see anybody willing to report to Baie Comeau I still think it is odd ... fairness aside, there is very little indication that Baie-Comeau runs a first class on or off ice operation. Obviously a case of personal relationship with the coach and GM winning out ... because if you are a player/family shopping for the best possible program to develop in, I doubt Baie-Comeau is it, regardless of which side of the border you look. Even if they soured on the NCAA path (or it soured on them - which it may have ... there seems to be some indication that they did not fully live up to expectations in the BCHL), typically these guys would end up in one of the bigger market Q teams.

Isn’t this better then? A small market got 2 “high calibre” players to report when stronger franchises who drafted them couldn’t.

I guess if you think all franchises should have equal access to players ... the reality is some organizations are better run than others, and in a world where players have plenty of good options outside the Q, it makes sense to me that they are going to want to choose where they play within the league if they have some leverage.

They’re really trading for Raoul, Jules is just a by product of getting the player they really want. I wouldn’t call them both high caliber players. Now what you are getting in Raoul is a highly talented 17 year old, who would have gone a lot higher in the draft if he’d report. I’m as surprised as anyone that it’s Baie-Comeau but it’s great they got the player to report and into the league. I know people will also say Raoul wasn’t impressive in the BCHL but it is the best Jr. A league in Canada and not a place 16 year olds typically go to thrive (unless you’re going to be a high NHL pick) so the “lack of production” isn’t a big concern to me. He was the 3rd most productive 16 in the league by PPG. I think they’re getting a real good player when he’s 19/20 in the league.

The BCHL has also left the Hockey Canada umbrella and HC has said that going forward any players who play in the BCHL after Sep 30 are ineligible to play in any other HC sanctioned league and/or any HC Team Canada type teams. Maybe that is playing a part in the decision, at least for the higher rated brother?
