messy situation...I hope for Columbus sake that it's nothing like Biz is describing...if so there's gotta be something mentally wrong with Babcock.

What's going on with Babs now? Overreaction on the part of the Spittin Chiclets crew....or what? Overreaction if its not true for sure. Elliotte Friedman had a good point. Chances are someone who was asked was uncomfortable with it. Some guys may have no issue with it. Babcock used to do it in Toronto and have players tell some stories about the pictures, the family in them, etc. As a team bonding/get more in touch with each other exercise there's nothing wrong with that as long as the people doing it are comfortable sharing. I've had bosses in "team bonding" exercises have uncomfortable conversations. Not inappropriate necessarily but every person has their own view of what comfortable is when in a work setting. You usually come out of it with a better perspective on how others think and view your role within the team and its a positive experience. But I have also had to be the person trying to entice a younger person to open up a little bit because the generation raised on their devices have a tougher time opening up. So many have been sheltered from uncomfortable conversations by parents that when faced with it in a work setting its overwhelming. I think a coach like Babcock still doesn't understand how to earn the trust of that generation. He's still trying the old school methods from 20 years ago when he was dealing with players born in the 60's, 70's and 80's. He has prove he has evolved a bit or this will be a short stop for him.

I feel like it’s an overreaction by the Chiclets guys and doesn’t really sound like it went down how they described. Now I don’t think they made it up out of left field, they’re too credible for that but maybe they had a bad source, everyone has them. If it did go down as described, then Boone Jenner could have ended his tenure again, if he comes out (or any player) and says he felt it invaded his privacy/was as some have described it. There’s just no way he’d still be coaching. It may be weird for some but I can also understand trying to build that relationship with your captain and your players, you understand their family a little more and get to know these guys on a more personal level. It really doesn’t seem like anything bad on the surface but because its Babcock, the spidy senses start tingling and given the history, you assume it is. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle but because it’s Babcock, everyone has to take a stance on one side or the other.

It's a weird exercise IMO.....
I didn't think the Blue Jackets made a very wise choice rehashing Babcock as a coach..... and we aren't even into camp yet and this shit pops up
My boss doesn't automatically earn the right to my social media presence or pictures in my phone..... he can ask to know about my family but even that isn't something I have to open up about before I even get to know the guy/gal

It can take years to earn the trust Babcock wants on day 1. Another part of that generational gap I think. The old "is trust given automatically or does it have to be earned" argument that has no wrong answer but a lot of opinion. The game changes when its millionaires dealing with millionaires but there's a trust and respect factor that still has to mutually exist. But I will say that your social media presence should be locked down if you don't want it to slide into your professional life. Social media is the first and easiest thing to check on people now. There's an entire generation about to live their facebook post from when they were 19 in every job interaction for the rest of their lives if proper privacy settings are not enabled. Weeding people out by their poor judgement on facebook is usually step 1 of an employment process these days.

Anybody know exactly what he did? I just heard bits and pieces about social media... Exactly what happened, no ... few if any do ... and they likely all have different interpretations of it anyway. The gist of it is that he had players share the contents of their camera roll under the guise of getting to know them, and some felt pressured/uncomfortable in being made to do so. I honestly think this was a situation where perhaps he was more socially awkward than malicious - but given his history, the knives were out for him from the beginning. They had no choice but to make a move - he basically lost the room prior to the first practice.

It was a baffling hire from day one.
It was a market that has a hard time getting big names taking a swing at a big name, despite his history.
Babcock was always going to be under a microscope, and anytime he does anything even remotely offputting or creepy, or that could be interpreted as bullying... yea, this is gonna happen.
From a hockey standpoint, it's CLEAR Babcock was going to be a huge distraction all year. Anyone could have seen this coming (which means that the Blue Jackets brass and Jarmo Kekäläinen should definitely be under the microscope for this.)
But yea, I love hockey, but it's an incredibly silly sport. apparently there's only 35-40 guys who can be an NHL coach and we need to keep recycling all of them.

How do those responsible for hiring Babcock , keep their jobs ? Comes down to the ownership not wanting any other disruptions for the players with training camp right around the corner.
