Durocher did have a very good speech , he was emotional at end too , he was a good coach but a horrible GM, I see now he is with Baie Comeau now as assistant GM, he is better off coaching in my opinion, anyways a nice win for eagles on a special day now they head out on a tough 3 game road trip to Quebec

He's kind of like an unofficial statistician he has been tweeting about CHL stats and information daily for a few years now.

Hearing that the Joseph Family themselves requested to have his tribute on the 8th to commemorate his longtime jersey #8.
I'm sure they could give a shit less about insensitive people's negative feedback and cared much more about the great tribute put forward by the organization he gave so much of his time and effort to over the years.

This was a statement game.
Good team coming in at the end of a road trip. Good start. Held on for a big win.
You sleepwalk through that 1st period and you're giving up 2 points. Instead we came ready and in the end the start was the difference.
After that tough loss vs Halifax getting 4 points was important.

Yeah and its also not 2008 any more so waiting until later in the season should mean a larger crowd but at this point there's just no guarantees. Ideally you'd have 4000+ on hand for every "special ceremony" but those days are long gone. Thanksgiving Sunday is never the time anyone wants that stuff to happen internally i'm sure but if there was a certain wish for it to happen at that time...can the team afford to fight it? You just have to roll with it. Its a bad look but so is everything this regime tries to do when the bad look is mostly empty seats. I don't see any attempts to change the course or attempt anything innovating or new so this is just the new reality. It's a worse look to not do anything to honour those past people who spent many years here. Not sure how they do that and have the optics look any different though.

When attendance suffers, the only way to change it is to go out into the schools and hand out free tickets. Every kid you can get out to the game is usually accompanied by a paying adult. It's the only way to turn your games into the place to be. There's other ways to change it. The school systems here are around 40% in poverty. Giving out free tickets to school kids isn't the only way. Doing a yearly "school kids only" game on a weekday is a great idea to get kids exposure but you're not turning any business around with free tickets to school kids in terrible economic times. In our area that free ticket you're expecting to lead to an adult sale is probably just going unused. You say we're a lot different then other Maritime rinks. Halifax is arguably the model market in the league. Moncton has a brank new rink. And has had some success. Charlottetown has been competitive. Saint John and Bathurst have won championships. Everyone else has at least felt like they've had some success over the last decade. I'm not about to re-hash the 10 years of misery but its arguably been even worse then that here. Some of you who don't live here have no clue about how much past regimes hurt this franchise. Burning business ties. Sponsorships. Personal relationships. This isn't the same franchise as the one that was mostly controlled by CB Beverages and the Lynch's back in the early-mid 2000's. Gerard Shaw's stunts ("leadership committee" full of his buddies that seemed to last about as long as the CB Post article vaguely touching on it) set things back. The owner pulling the stunts he is now with the leadership titles only sets them further back in the eyes of educated fans who actually understand the league and the other teams in it. As long as we're the joke of the league whose VP goes live on radio and calls the real GM a back office worker after the last decade its impossible to compare it to other Maritime teams and wonder why people won't support this. They're no longer being "punished" by those who stopped going to games. They're basically a non-entity in the market here. A fan group on Facebook, and our board here, do more to push promotions and team news then the team does itself. I see marketing people doing no creative/original marketing. Business people creating zero new business. And the VP going on radio sounding like a teenager whose dad just bought him a new toy. You can put the 80's Oilers out there in Black and Yellow right now and few in this market not already comitted to going would even hear about it until closer to the end of the season.
